Recommended head liner cleaner

Wow, didn’t realize how dirty the rear if the headliner gets from driving w rear window down.

Any suggestions on what to clean it with that won’t leave permanent stains?

Roll-down rear window is way overrated.

With the light color of it I don't know if it is possible without doing the whole thing. How much is a new headliner?

Good luck.

I have cleaned my vehicles over a few decades with cloth materials. I do a good vacuum job then I use a small spray bottle with rug cleaner. then I use a shop wet vac with a small water pick up attachment .. smooth .. then the dirt gets sucked off the cloth . I do it alot on the rugs in the vehicle works good ..

the rear window should not be down when driving .. dirt and exhaust fumes will enter the vehicle.. I put on an extension on the exhaust pipe .. IMO pipe too short so no dis-colorization on my white rear bumper fender ..

Shop vac does a good job for me. I constantly drive with my windows down so can relate to the dust build up. Never used a chemical, was always happy with just vacuuming it good.

I'm not sure about the best way to get it clean, but once it is, what about using some kind of fabric protection on it to both make it harder to get dirty and easier to clean in the future?

Scotch Guard? That's the only name I can think of b/c it was recommended to me when I bought some furniture 20+ years ago, but I'm sure there are others.

Last January my wife bought me an auto detail as a gift. When I took it in I asked if they could clean the headliner, I'm not sure what they did but it looked virtually ew again. I thought I heard something about steam cleaning it but don't quote me on that.

Meguiars interior detalier

I spray Meguiars interior detailer on a microfiber towel and gently wipe it down. I’m afraid to use a vac because it may eventually make the headliner sag.

Love the rear window!
Just have it up when dusty, and yes I have forgot a few times.

What really makes a mess of the headliner is squashing mosquitoes on it with help from a flash light!

I bought my T4R to use it, it gets dirty! I wash it when it rains.

Just did this to my girlfriends car. Murphy's oil soap is the best. Cap full in bucket of warm water. Dip clean cloth ring out excess - than wipe with dry cloth.

dude
just get your favorite car wash and warm water and a microfiber towel
dilute it more than you would to a slick but not sudsy solution.. change water as it gets dirty.. ring towel out frequently or have several clean ones on hand
dont scrub the shit out of the headliner.. just gentle swipes in all directions.. this is how i "wash" my interior.. just a bucket wash for the interior to remove dirt then apply whatever protectant you want

To each his own. I think the vast majority of people love the roll down rear window. It’s great on the highway where you can leave your side windows closed and have the sunroof and rear window open and still get great ventilation. It’s also great when I have my kayaks loaded up and can’t open the rear hatch but need to access gear I have stored in back.

I’ve cleaned my headliner periodically with a bucket of warm water with mild soap and microfiber towel. Just give it a gentle wipe down and it will come clean easily.

I cleaned my headliner with this method. Works great. Gentle circles and change the towel often. Removed all the exhaust soot no problem.

So there's some kind of backwards suction that pulls the exhaust in thru the rear window?

Always. That's why Toyota says to roll it up while driving.

Let me rephrase - So there's some kind of backwards suction that pulls the exhaust in thru the rear window.... even when the front windows and/or moonroof are open too?
