2018 SR5 vs 2019 SR5 vs 2019 TRD

Hi, I'm contemplating between these 3 vehicles,
4Runner 2018 SR5 4x4 approx 30k miles, approx $30k price
4Runner 2019 SR5 4x4 approx 25k miles, approx $30k price
4Runner 2019 TRD 4x4 approx 20k miles, approx $35k price

What are the differences between these vehicles? Do you recommend any particular one over others? What's interesting for me is that I see 2019 SR5 with same mileage sell the same or even cheaper than 2018 SR5. Is 2018 SR5 model somehow better?

if you want a TRD then get that one, if you want an SR5 then obviously get the newer one with lower miles

Assuming a TRD OR based on price? Either way TRD models have locking rear diffs and crawl control the SR5s have neither. These benefit offroading but are not necessary by any means.

I have no complaints driving my SR5 though and wouldnt pay 5k for the upgrade. Im assuming the SR5s have some different equipment between the two models your looking at. If these are being listed at different dealers or private sales that may also be part of it. If you post pics of the listed equipment someone on here can surely help point out the differences.

You can probably get a brand new '19 SR5 for close to $34K right now.

It's going to be used 95% of the time on the streets. I go camping with kids often so I want extra space that 4Runner can offer - no only in the trunk but also on the roof and hitch (e.g. bicycle rack). Which means I don't have any specific need for TRD, I think I would be perfectly fine with SR5.

What's most important to me is - reliability and good overall value. Let's say we drop TRD as it doesn't improve reliability over SR5 models (doesn't it?). So now I'm choosing between 2018 SR5 and 2019 SR5. Didn't Toyota change anything between the years? Often times they do improve small things here and there. Usually the later vehicle of the series - the better quality it is as manufacturers fix and improve things over the years.

Pretty sure there were zero differences between 2018 and 2019 MY. TRD OR might be reduced reliabilty because of additional features but should be the same(not better). Resale on TRD OR might be better since it seems like less of them are produced compared to SR5.

EDIT: SR5 is plenty capable for your use case

As CO-Cygnus mentioned, you probably get a new 2019 close to your prices since they are trying to clear them out since big changes for 2020 MY(for a 4runner).

This.

Don't buy anything used for more than $30k. Go look at new, and see what the actual price difference is. 2020's are out, end of year is approaching. Buying new works in your favor.

I'm in San Jose, California. Prices of new 2019 4Runners in my area are in $37k - $40k range. I don't know where you can get it that cheap new.
I could get used 2019 with approx 20k miles for as low as $28k.

California explains it. I say go for the 2019 SR5. A year newer than the 2018 and fewer miles. Possible differences between SR5s are third row seat, sunroof, premium vs standard. You didn’t mention those so I assume they’re the same trim level, etc.
