Blue smoke

My 2017 Off-road has been puffing blue smoke upon start up. Only happens when truck has been sitting overnight and just recently started happening. I just bought the car used from a Subaru dealer and it has 45k on the clock. Have checked oil consumption and nothing to note, rig runs fine. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Is it only on start up or is it constant while driving? Regardless it sounds like you got oil getting into somewhere it shouldn't. Might have a bad seal somewhere

My brand new 2010 Tacoma smoked the first week I had it. I ended up fixing it by cleaning out the PCV valve. Never had an issue after.

Try cleaning the PCV. On the 1GR in the Tacoma is was screwed into the driver side of engine. Can't remember if it was the valve cover or lower intake manifold. I removed it, sprayed intake tube cleaner in it and shook it to make sure the valve moved freely.

Try cleaning/replacing the PCV valve. I find this to be the culprit 80% of the time on a newer vehicle that is running fine.

Had a 1st Gen that did this only on startup, white smoke not Blue. Turned out to be a leaking head gasket, burned antifreeze like crazy.......

Try cleaning the PCV, like everyone is saying. If it's not that, it sounds like the classic symptom of leaking valve seals or worn valve guides.

Don't clean the PCV valve, replace it. It's $5. Also, check for sludge or restrictions in the hose. Maybe pull your plugs and check for oil. Blue smoke at 45k only on startup sounds like a ventilation issue. Question is, what caused it? Short trips and sludge will foul the PCV valve. Look down the oil filler tube with a flashlight. Is it clean metal, lacquered, or black?

buying a used vehicle can be scary considering you dont know how well the previous owner took care of it...I would also check to see if you can get a record of the maintenance performed on the vehicle from the dealer, Im assuming the oil level was correct and not over filled...back in the day several engine manufacturers had issues with valve guide seals leaking and it would leak enough oil into the combustion chamber to puff blue smoke at startup but that was many moons ago

If it's still under warranty I'd take it and have it looked at. Could be oil blowing past the rings when it's cold. Not uncommon for older cars where the rings are worn but I certainly wouldn't expect it from a 3 year old truck.

GO HAWKS!

It was well maintained with dealership performed maintenance. I have all the records. I’m assuming is a failing pcv as it seems a lot of guys with the same motor in the Tacoma have the same issue.

Dealer schmealer. I'd check those things i mentioned as well as grease your u joints and slip yokes. I'd also start doing your own oil changes and general maintenance. My dealer didn't grease my u joints ever during the free and paid maintenance. When i took over the zerks still had factory black stuff on the balls and it was blowing grease back at me. i had to pick the black stuff off. they also stripped my skid plate screws and over torques the oil filter housing. List goes on and on.
