This will be interesting...

...Ford VS. Toyota...

2020 Ford Bronco vs. Toyota 4Runner | McKie Ford Rapid City, SD.

I haven't seen one of these things yet, but the comparisons are already being made, albeit from a Ford dealership.

I never really cared for the original Bronco styling. If the new Bronco was styled more like a '78 Bronco then I may have been tempted to have a look. But really one of the most important reasons why I bought a 4Runner is the fact that it is a made in Japan Toyota which the Bronco will never be.

Awesome! Lets compare the starting price of the Escape based Bronco Sport to the 4Runner and to top it off lets pretend we know how much the 6th gen 4Runner tows.

The new Bronco is going to be a joke and will never live up to its predecessor.

I'm picturing a unibody crossover with useless offroad aesthetics. Independent suspension all around with multi terrain select lol.

It will compete against the highlander at best.

4runner will remain in its own class.

Rubicon will still be off road king.

I really hope the Bronco is a serious competitor to the 4Runner and Jeep. Competition is good. I would never buy a 1st year model anything, but I look forward to seeing what the 4 door Bronco can do. Based on the leaked spy shots, I think it's a good looking vehicle.

That article in the link was garbage....for all the obvious reasons.

Not even close.

Bronco will have a solid rear axle, front and rear lockers, front sway bar disconnect, option for a 7-speed manual...

It will compete with 4Runner and Wrangle Rubicon.

The new Bronco is a joke, they aren’t gonna have a solid axle upfront in any of their offerings. It won’t even compete with the 4Runner.

I don't understand your argument, you know the 4Runner is IFS, right?

I'm not convinced on the Bronoco being the end all be all yet (and it is a Ford, so god help quality and reliability during the first year or so after the bang up job they did with launching their new Explorer), but it may end up being a serious contender to both the Wrangler and the 4Runner.

It's going to be really interesting to see what Toyota comes up with for the 6th generation plus the next Land Cruiser.

I also have to say after getting to see a new Defender in the flesh and fire one up and sit in it and play for awhile (but unfortunately not drive it since it was already sold at $10000 mark-up ), those trucks have potential to be pretty damn neat also.

The sport model is the garbage small sized unibody crossover. I believe this is what the poster was elluding to. I'd be interested in the chassis on frame version if they use well known off the shelf componenents such as engine, tranny, diffs.... No way I'd be an adopter the first couple years, but maybe down the road depending on reliability. Especially if Toyota goes forward with outsourcing 4R major components or production outside of Japan.

Oh, and while I commend the marketing of that dealership, they seem to know little more than we do in regards to the coming Bronco. Every other line is an assumption.

I'll wait until the vehicle is actually out there and real life comparisons can be made. No matter what it will never have Toyota reliability though.

^^ This!

I have no problem with Ford, but I traded in my '17 Explorer for a 4Runner, and traded a Tacoma before that. It was the single most regret I had. I needed an SUV vs. a truck at the time I got an Explorer and it was a year end close out so the dealership made me a deal it was hard to say no too and I got rid of my beloved Tacoma.

Fast forward to July 1, I now have a 2020 4Runner "Nightshade" edition and couldn't be happier. The quality is 10x what my Explorer was.

And let's make fun of the 4Runner body-on-frame design too. Which the decent Bronco will have....
