That is the first thing that came to my mind. If I could have the manual t-case lever like I have now with the option to go 4wd at any time, that would be awesome!

This subject has been discussed many times since the 5th gen came out. A search will bring up a lot of threads on this subject.

I really really miss the fold down tray from the center armreat/bolster. Who knew that such a minor thing would mean so much. I've got nowhere to put my sandwich at lunchtime! LOL!

I guess I am going against the crowd here…

IMHO: each year model generation are different, and they all have their pros and cons… and those are just that “pros” and “cons” not counting that most of them are subjective…

So, to me 5th gen (at least 2010-2013 Trails) is my favorite gen out of 4 I have owned- see my signature… To sum it all up the 2013 trail has more important characteristics I am looking for in SUV and serves my needs better than previous gens and that generates my respond to OP: I missed nothing.

My $.02

I get what you're saying, and I would certainly take my Gen 5 over our previous Gen 4. That being said, how can you say you don't miss that oil filter arrangement? I miss it every time I change the oil!

If I could have bought a brand new 4th Gen again I would have.

My misses from 4th:

Close Assist trunk - I still lightly close it and have to reopen to slam.
Dual sun visor
Turning Radius
Power (Wife's 5th is a turd compared to my 4th)
Selectable 4wd system - Forced into a Limited due to this. Wife wanted a TRD Off Road but wanted AWD for bad weather. AWD won out decision.
Intermittent wiper switch (pictogram makes more sense on 4th).
A-Pillar handle
No rear window button on FOB
No RSCA disable
Hamburger Tray
Oil Filter location moved from top-side (why change this???)
Turn signal relay changed (can't adapt Tap-Turn relay for LED bulbs and comfort signaling)
I hate the ECO gauge on almost every menu in cluster.
No center speaker for JBL
Plastic dash
Sunroof button confusing (a year later I still have to look at what switch is vent / open-close)
Flat cargo floor
Locking gas door
Rear window button location sucks. Easy to hit.
Lots of dials not back lit (i.e. - The 4wd selector is lit on 4th, not on 5th. I always keep thinking it's out).
Roof rack and cross bars are useless. Went to put my Yakima box on the roof and ended up scratching the roof and antenna due to low profile. Couldn't use it for vacation - FAIL.
Not sure how I feel about push start. Call me old fashioned. A regular key always works.

Hit's:

More room
Third row
Steering wheel much more comfortable / ergonomic.
Rear wiper hides away
Heated wiper rest area
Washer jets under hood
Ambient lighting
More aftermarket support.
Puddle lights in mirrors

My wife still has the 2006 w/ the V8, and I find myself driving her 4Runner when I go up to the mountains rather than my 2016 TRD. Especially when I pulling the raft.

My 4th gen had 4.7 V8, so oil location was the same as in my current 5th gen V6… so the only difference is now I have cartridge and that probably adds around 5 minutes to oil change and since I am doing oil changes around twice a year I cannot say it is a big deal for me… on a plus side, now I have an extra 10 minutes resting quietly under my truck… LOL.
But I get your point… especially for people who had 4th gen with V6.
