Bilstein 6112/5160 + B12 Springs

I have done it and may be the first ever, maybe not, to have installed Bilstein 6112/5160 with their new Bilstein B12 springs.

47-259768 6112 front

25-227611 5160 Rear

53-291387 Front strut Spring. This is supposed to be 14" 650b spring for an additional 80-140 pounds of front weight. It only works with the 6112 strut. Some info states it lifts an additional 0.5" but when I called Bilstein they said it does not lift an additional 0.5". I was told to use the original clip settings so get the desired lift height with the additional front weight. I wanted 2" with additional weight so that's circlip #4 for my kdss vehicle per the instructions. I have stock 6112 coils which are 600lb and 14" i think that I try to sell off later.

36-281824 Rear springs. These are supposed to lift an additional 1.5" in the rear without additional weight. They have a 1" lift spring option but no one has it and its on back order until nov or something.

I just finished the lift and no weight on the front yet but the rear seems to have gained 2"+ eyeballing it. The front with out the winch and winch bumper is also super high about 3in. The winch and winch bumper should be about 130lb total. I haven't driven the vehicle as it still needs to be aligned but ill provide some feed back on ride quality. I have been told that the suspension needs to "settle" or "break in". Is this true? I did realize that I don't have pre-lift height measurements, I was too excited to get started I totally forgot. Ill get measurements post alignment and post winch/winch bumper plate install, then measurements again 500-1000 miles later to see the difference. I hope it does settle, it looks like I have 3" front and back now. Im keeping stock 265/70/17 tires, and stock UCA. Ill get some pics up.

How do you like ride quality? Did you go from stock to the 6112/5160 setup?

On Bilsteins website, I think the clip setting instructions are different with the different coils 600 vs 650. I am set at 6th clip setting with the 600lbs coil and netted 2.7” in line with the instructions.

Also, I do think it takes some time to settle right after install, especially with a 650lbs coil.

I swapped my 600lb springs for Bilsteins 650lb sometime in spring and I could find very little to no info. I did manage to find the clip setting info for the 650lb and I based my decision off of that. Initially I had it on the 7th clip for about ~3” lift (w/ KDSS) in the front but moved down to the 6th clip once I swapped to 650lb springs. I am currently at about 3” with lo-pro bumper, winch, group 27f battery and arb twin compressor with 1 gal tank. I was afraid of leaving it on the 7th setting and possibly over extending the KDSS system.

Help, so I was about to install my lift. I just saw this and it totally screws up my setup. So I was installing the rear Dobinsons springs which are supposed to be 1.5 but apparently their like 1.75.

The 6112 springs only have settings at 1, 1.4 and 1.7 and so on.

So with this theory, if I do a 1 inch lift, I will get 1.5 for the front and have a 1.75 increase in rake from the back. If I go with 1.4, I will end up at 2 in the front and 1.75 in the back almost eliminating rake.

I want to maintain my stock rake and had planed on 1.75 across the board. What should I do? So frustrating.

You are referring the KDSS clip settings with the 600lbs coil, correct?

I am at the 6th clip setting for 2.7” of lift with a 1” Eibach rear coil that is really 1.5” and I have slight rake.

Tough call - I keep going back on forth on that also. I would call bilstein and ask their opinion. I think they have pretty decent customer service.

I tow a small trailer and personally couldn’t imagine having a reverse rake by leveling it out.

I also have the brand new front 600 lb Bilstein coils that came with the front shocks if someone wants them discounted w/KDSS.

Good info! Sounds like a solid build. Do you know the coil pound rating for the dobinsons coils? Good luck with the install and post pictures after. The Pro folks can run the 600lbs coil on TRD bilsteins for some lift so I don’t think you will have problems selling that pair of coils.

The rear Dobinsons are 10% over stock. I will point out that apparently the 1.5 lift ends up at 1.75 and the 2 at 2.25.

All this gets super confusing when trying to coupe that with the front spring height.

Bilstein does make them at stock with a lift in case you wanted stock. I didn’t want to go too stiff myself...

Just got back from vacation, up loaded some pictures and the alignment specs. Caster is close enough to 4 degrees on stock uco and it handles better than pre aligment. Did have to replace the lca, had to be cut out due to frozen bolts, what a bich.

I took post lift height measurement and post 200 off road mile measurement but I can't find the paper I wrote them on!!!! The height did settle down after the 200 miles and it looks very nice now. I'm much happier than immediately after lifting with no miles. It handles better than before and it rides smoother than stock. On the washroom board I didn't even have to air down like before due to harshness. Tires are at 36-38 psi on the road on p rated dynapros. I was very surprised how much smoother the ride is offroad even at street pressures. Once I find my paper with the measurements, I'll post it.

It was my understanding that the rear dobinson coil is 1.5" lift on 4runner and 1.75" on fj cruiser when I spoke to them. I had planned to use dobinson but their front would not fit the 6112 struts. I wanted to keep both springs the same manufacturer

I wanted to bump this thread to ask a question. I just bought the 6112/5160 setup. I’m going between the 1.2” and 1.6” setting for the front. If I do the 1.6” setting, will I need the B12 1” coil springs to keep the slight forward rake? I have a 2018 SR5 4wd non KDSS. If anyone has a done this setup or have another rear spring idea to get the 1.6” lift in the front do you mind sharing some pictures? Thanks in advance. I’m also planning on KO2 tires but torn between 265 vs 275.

Just had 6112/5160 installed yesterday! I stuck with Bilstein springs. Love the ride. Night and day over stock.
