Here’s a pic of the cSt rankings, this might be easier to see on a mobile device.

Ah I agree, the Toyota oil is a superior oil to all others. It's all I run in my 4Runner after trying Mobil 1 and Valvoline and there was significantly more valvetrain noise with both. Toyota doesn't make oil though, it's actually made by Mobil oil company. It's just made to Toyota spec with nothing else comes close to matching.

Changing Rear Diff Fluid Every 30k?
This is a good example of what happens to your rear differential fluid; in the video they only go up to 30 mph but imagine zipping up and down the highway at 80 miles an hour what that fluid action would look like? Rear differential fluid gets beat in this extreme environment, add heat and aeration and you can understand why this fluid needs to be on a good maintenance schedule.
My Dad taught me back in the early 90’s that you need to change the rear diff fluid every 30k miles; I know lubrication has evolved since then but it really is good advice.

Well Hammer0313, my go to oil is PP which is a ChinaMart bargin.
Redline, Amsoil are overpriced and/or a hassle to get...Mob1 is Very Good stuff and if 3 bucks cheaper at ChinaMArt I'd abandon PP. Toyota would be my last choice. Thank you for asking what my go to oil is. Happy Trails.

nice report but only 4300 miles on Signature Series stuff....you drained it way early! any particular reason for doing so or were you concerned you'd still be seeing a lot of break-in material? you could more than double that run, between the high TBN and stable viscosity that blend is known for.

A couple weeks ago I did the 2nd oil change on my 2019 Highlander with the 3.5L V6 First was done at 2000 miles, 2nd at 5000 miles, and I will change the oil every 5000 miles going forward. I follow this schedule with my 2016 4Runner as well. Anyway, I used the Quaker State Ultimate Durability 0W20 since it was so cheap and easy to get and I used an OEM filter as I always do. I have to say, I'm impressed. The 3.5 runs smoother and quieter with the QS over even the Toyota oil. I will be using the QSUD in my 2016 4Runner when it's due for it's next service and I will of course post results on that as well. So far I am sold on this oil over M1 which was horrible, Valvoline which was just as bad, and Toyota oil which I was happy with but it's twice the price and I have to go to the dealer or order online to get it.

Costco Kirkland 0-20w looks like a great deal. Warren Oil makes it and the price is great for a full Synth.

Interesting reading here. These motors are not high performance or anything new for that matter. Change the oil every 5K or so and don't overthink it.

Thats how I see it. As long as you have the API seal on the oil bottle, I believe you should be fine with normal driving that 99% of the people mostly do. I use the cheapest full synthetic and its usually Super Tech which has good test results on Project Farms YT videos.

I’ve used that before also but not in my 4Runner. Project Farm does have some awesome videos. Amazon oil actually beat M1 but not really surprised. I’m really not impressed with M1 engine oil at all.

According to Project Farm Amsoil won followed very closely by Pennzoil. Pennzoil is cheaper than Amsoil and easier to find around here so I went with it for my first and so far only oil change. Engine runs quietly and it hasn't used any oil at all. I don't drive much these days so since the oil change late last summer I've only put on about 1,500 miles. I'll be doing another change at about 2,000 due to time instead of my usual 5,000 miles. Probably over kill but it'll make me feel better.
