Changed to Kirkland 0w-20 synthetic @ 1,000 miles, and also added a friction reducer (Mo Glide).

I just hit 5K and sent a sample in to Blackstone.

Will share results here when I receive them. Cheers

I definitely want to see that oil report from Blackstone!

Blackstone oil report that a couple asked for..

2021 TRD Pro that has seen quite a few trips into the California mountains.

This oil was sampled at 5k miles, and I had changed the oil at 1K; so there are only 4k miles on this oil.

TL;DR: data report shows normal wear for a new engine; count for wear and silicon should drop after a few more changes.

That’s better than my first oil report, and very similar. Only thing that took awhile to come down was that copper. Nice first report!

Good info, just ignore the manual tranny stuff for the tacomas. I've been running 75-90 in my transfer case and I'm very happy with how its been shifting and performing on the trail. Highly recommended if you see dirt often.

Amsoil 5w30 with TBN and TAN added to the sample test. This oil had 100’s of short trips with a few long hauls to Florida. It held up well!

You’re using Amsoil and dumping it after only 5,000 miles? And doing a $30 oil analysis each time? And using an Amsoil filter?
That’s quite an expense for “peace of mind”.

Peace of mind is priceless. I run synthetic with OE or quality aftermarket filters and dump every 5K as well. I will never go 10K as they claim we should.

I always wonder why dealers and oil change places recommended changing the oil on the 4Runner every 5~6,000 miles instead of 10,000. I always thought is was so the could make more money. But this guy give a great explanation on why you should change it early instead of waiting the full 10,000 mile.

I do the same. But 5K oil changes using Amsoil products doesn’t make economic sense. Amsoil makes good products but is very expensive. Their big selling point is their oil can last 25,000 miles if you use their oil filter. Then the expense is on par with other major brands with shorter drain intervals.

Doesn’t Toyota use Mobil 1?

So confused right now because I’ve used Mobil 1 for my 3 domestics and they’re all at 250k+ miles at this time, but using it in the Range Rover consistently produced more valvetrain noise at startup, using the same weight, so I switched back to the recommended Castrol Professional shortly thereafter. Resolved that.

Have used mostly 5W-30 Royal Purple in my Nissans. However reading this forum has made me want to go to Toyota brand 0W-20 synthetic changed at 8K km intervals. Toyota adds some additional additives to their oil that changes the content slightly from Mobil 1 EP. Am I wrong or is it just marketing ? Worth note our Runners have the severe side of the service. Winters here range from below 30 F to below -16 F in places like Thunder Bay and Northern Ontario. to above 90 F in summer
