You can open up a firehouse of info and opinions when asking about motor oil. I haven’t seen any official confirmation but the popular consensus is that Mobil makes Toyota oil to Toyota’s specs. People have done virgin oil analysis on each and there are differences, one being the Toyota oil has a lot more molybdenum.

I ended up going to a shorter interval with the more available Mobil 1. I’m using the EP (Extension Protection) because it’s about the same price as the AFE when on sale. The shorter interval is because most of my usage is short trips, I only did 6k miles last year. If I end up doing 1000-1200/mo again I’ll adjust my interval accordingly. I also switched to a 5W/30 because it makes me feel better.

i mean, Toyota makes it really clear in their manual just how many use cases kick you down to a 5,000 mile oil change interval, and i think they're overlooked constantly. its pretty clear that unless you're running mostly highway miles unloaded you shouldn't shoot for 10k. towing, running a roof-mounted cargo carrier, heavy loads, extensive idling (how many of us sit in traffic twice a day), repeated sub 5-mile trips in below-freezing weather.....all put you on a 5,000 mile or 6 month interval.

all that stuff is taken directly from the Warranty & Maintenance Guide chart on page 38.

Toyota branded oil has significant additives over M1 oil. To be honest, after reading more oil data sheets than I care to remember, M1 really doesn't impress me. I personally no longer run it or believe it's anything special anymore.

Toyota 0W20

Looks like a Toyota 0W20 shortage in CA.
No local dealers have a line of sight on delivery.
Supply chain.

There is a supply issue with all weights and brands. We use 5-40 and 15-40 at work every day and it's been tough getting it. It's apparently a shortage of one of the chemicals used to make synthetic oils that is causing the shortage and most companies use the same chemical so it's across the board.

I agree completely. It's far superior to M1 as most oils actually are. M1 is nothing special at all IMO Believe it or not, Amazon branded oil and Walmart SuperTech oil both have superior additive packages to M1 oil.

So many people have done VOA of Toyota 0W-20. That’s probably why the average column values look that way. Most other brand’s moly number is way below Toyota’s.

I have lately been watching video's of car care nut who is a Toyota Technician and a purist for using genuine Toyota oils. His recommendation of oil change intervals are 5k! Never more than that, no matter what the manual or the oil marketing ads say.

Fram is for people that don't care about their vehicles. Stay away from that junk.
