Good evening gentlemen, my Rear Diff, TC and Front Diff are due for service and I wanted to get some input on fluid recommendations. I've been running Amsoil for so long I'm not sure what brand to go with, I really like Amsoli but I want to try something else. Recommendations and personal experience are greatly appreciated.

Brass/Copper synchronizers in our transfer cases? Video is of a transfer case out of a 2017 Taco, complete disassembly; halfway through the video you will see the brass/copper synchronizers. Looked up replacement fluids and reached out to Redline and Amsoil, Redline has a GL-4 75W replacement fluid but Amsoil has no substitute. Redline web site states the GL-4 lacks the Sulphur that damages the brass/copper components that the GL-5 fluids have.
The question is should we be using a GL-5 75W90 in the transfer case?

people over think which brand oil to use, pretty much follow the recommended specs and interval changes and you should be fine. I typically buy what is on sale, clearance or has rebates.
I stocked up on mobil one euro for my audi at one point I had 40 qts that cost $28 from a walmart clearance deal . Recently purchased pennzoil for the 4runner , bought 20 qts at $70 and received a $50 rebate.
Dealer did all previous service, I did my first oil change on the 4runner at 60k miles and the oil still looked good at the 10k interval. I'll probably do oil changes at 7500 miles vs the 10k. I've used redline for my harleys and never had issues.

MT-LV is what redline recommends, which is a GL-4. Just wondering why we'd want to use GL5?
I've got Redline's 75w85 GL5 in for at least 25k so far and nothing exciting to report. It sounds absolutely normal. Havent gotten around to replacing T/C fluid yet.

I use Redline MT-LV GL-4 in the transfer case and Valvoline SynPower GL-5 in the differentials. T/C shifts smoothly.

A lot of people running 75w90 GL-5 in their TC including me; placed an order with Redline this morning. TC will get the Redline GL-4, front and rear diffs will get Redline 75w90 GL-5.
Crazy thing is The Car Care Nut on youtube is a Toyota Master Tech with 20+ years working on Toyotas, and he said they just put in any 75w90 GL-5 they have in bulk or they run to the parts store and get whatever.

My 4R rolled over the 60k mark last week, she's getting a fluid overhaul this weekend. Giving Redline a try for the first time; I've heard good things about Redline over the years. Any Redline users on this thread?

I put Redline MT-LV GL-4 in the T/C four months ago, no issues.

I've been using Redline for decades in trucks, cars, motorcycles, racing engines, etc. Never had an issue due to the lubricant...

My philosophy is if something lasts 200k miles with OEM lubricant changes, I’ll keep using OEM. But since you already tested this one out, i believe I can make an exception

i currently have Redline 75W90 in the rear axle of the 4R and their MTL in the manual trans in my Honda. it made a marked improvement in shift quality in the Honda trans so i felt compelled to give it a shot with the Toyota.

following up on my own post from a couple pages ago. got another, and probably my last UOA using M1 0W-40 for ~6,000 miles with an OEM toyota filter. as noted, we towed from GA to AR and back again over 4 days with a travel trailer and fully loaded with people and luggage, the 4Runner sitting near 3,000 RPM the whole time. we also did a beach road trip fully loaded. this was in use from winter through spring and into mid-summer. engine didn't care, another solid run. i'll continue to use this in 6-8,000 mile intervals depending on how much severe use it sees. hope this helps.

That's the nail in the coffin my friend, your oil strategy is on point! Towing across the US locked in s4 and Back is hands down the best proving grounds and real world testing we will ever see.
Don't change a thing

I put the MT-LV in my TC a few weeks ago and engaged the 4x4 system and it Defiantly engaged better. I'm going to bump up to the Redline MT-85 this weekend; same formula as the other GL-4's in Redlines lineup according to Dave at Redline. The MT-85 is just thicker.

Interesting. I didn't know MT-85 GL-4 was available. Please post if you notice a difference.
