S mode...

2020 SR5 PREMIUM 4WD GRAY METALLIC YADA YADA WITH REVERSE.

SAFE for tranny TO SHIFT TO S mode when driving lets say like at 40 mph.
How about back into regular d when in 4th and rpms are climbing and you want 5th ok to do so in motion and with acceleretar pressed?

Didnt realize Reverse was an option. Wish my SR5 had that..

Yes it is safe. It is why the feature exists. In my experience Its seamless going back and forth. When moving and you switch to S it will usually default select one gear lower than it is currently in. Going back to Drive will not necessarily upshift but will turn control back to the computer.

Obviously be careful downshifting at high rpm. And when using 4L w/engine braking use EXTRA foot brake ahead of your downshift to save your neck and tranny.

My older daily driver ford ranger is stick.

My 2017 corolla SE CVT AUTO THAT had S and you moved up or down ACTUALLY shifted,

But on 4 runner at 1st i thought it shifted, but it does not. Now i know it simply is a digital

Position on an old school auto shifter.

Now I know after searching it sets the highest gear u want it to shift to. It can still shift up but only if computer thinks it should kinda like approaching red line.

If it's not safe (for the mechanical bits) the t4r will just beep at you and ignore your request.
You're on your own for the safeness of the driving conditions.

I tend to keep it in S5 most of the time on trips to make it easier to shift into 4th for hills. Much easier on the cruise control IMO.
