I bought my SR5 this summer. My impression of the tailgate? Heavy. It is a big door. The rear liftgate on my 2012 Subaru Outback is substantial, but considerably lighter than that of the 4Runner. Opening is pretty easy, as the struts do the lift. But closing, sometimes I get cocked a little sideways and put off balance. But I’m in my mid 60s and not as strong or agile as I once was. I find lowering the rear window more handy for smaller items than opening the door.
