Opening rear tailgate

So as i watch these u tube videos. Seems people effortless open up rear hatch push button and up it pops. Secret to make it easier. Push on switch area and pull also in same switch rubbery area?

On mine 2020 i push button and i wished it kicked it back just a little more. Do the shock struts gotta break in to make em push out a little.

Can the plaztic section handle many cycles of pullout to open without breaking? Maybe im paranoid. No electric opening. AHHHH!!

Sounds like you should have gone with a Highlander.

if yours requires any kind of effort pulling you should go back to the dealership, something is wrong with your tailgate operation

That "thing" you're worried about breaking is literally the handle. Use it.

And +1 for the Highlander comment.

A frieken minivan with a trailer and a quad going through dirt and sand washes LOL.

HOLLY KRAP. THE INTERNET truly displays people complete opposite.

Just wanted to know if the handle can handle the pull. Once it pulls a little it goes up on its own.

^^^ Losers who use the internet to inflate their ego. GTFO if you have nothing constructive to say.

The tailgate on the 4runner totally sucks compared to other vehicles. If OP came from any other vehicle with a lifting tailgate, it would be totally reasonable to say "is this right?"

Maybe tailgate design has changed significantly in 2020, in my 2010 tailgate opening doesn't seem any different from any other vehicles I touched...

I don't have problems with my tailgate. Pull it past a certain point and it opens itself but it never pops open on its own after pushing the button. I think you're misinterpreting the videos. I'd rather put in some effort than having some weak component. Also remember that the rear roll down window adds weight to the tailgate. You'll get used to it. You can always add the power tailgate kit if it bothers that much but then you have to wait for it.

Calm down there Francis. It's a little ribbing for a silly "problem" that most people on here don't experience. If your tailgate is so bad, why haven't you done something about it?

Disagree. I submit that anyone who needs to watch a YouTube video to figure out how to open a tailgate, and then freaks completely out when it doesn't operate exactly the same as what he's used to, is not quite ready for an off-road vehicle that demands calm, competent, confident decision-making in order to be operated safely in its intended environment. Thus, the Highlander recommendation.

Guys im an off road guy LOL !!! Just not with a rig. More fun with a quad or dirtbike.
Im coming from a corolla that takes 2 fingers to lightly open trunk.
And my ranger has no liftgate.
1st vehicle with this type of rear door thats all.

ME AND MY QUAD GO THROUGH SOME NASTY STUFF !!!

DEEP SNOW, RUTTED DEEP TRAIL- ROCKY AS FAK HILL CLIMBS STOK VEHICLES AT ur OWN RISK type of trails... God damn caps lok.

NOT WEAK LOL !!!

Laters.

Loving my 4 runner.

The more i drive it the more i love it and the less i baby it. Cant wait for snow to come to test out those long uphill snow covered highways.

I doubt the black webbing would show red dye very well. I thought about trying to tie up a paracord loop to replace the strap so I could hang lightweight stuff from it. I haven't looked very far into that idea though. Be the pathfinder, gambler!
