Happy with the purchase of a ‘20 ORP but what’s up with remote start

As title say it I’m really happy with my first 4runner and I don’t really need a remote start but I can’t see any reason why she doesn’t got it!
I’m not a expert mechanic but I think that isn’t a hardware thing it’s just software that would make her do that and in that case that wouldn’t cost a dime more in production.
Does someone is able to bright me up?

Greetings and thanks in advance

Well, start any question about why didn't Toyota include XYZ with.... Hmmm, Toyota didn't feel like including a 50 cent light sensor for automatic ambient lighting adjustment on non-Pro/Limited trims.

You’re right, is ridiculous and probably decided by the marketing guys
The bigger question here is, is the some hardware involved or not?
My experience with dealerships is the more you already know the more they willing to help.
My previous truck need just a different remote and a minute or two at the dealership computer and it was done. But the first two dealerships I ask without knowing that told me I have to bring my truck and $400 and they take care of that...
I ended up with $25 for the remotes and $30 in coffee and donuts for the shop crew...

That auto ambient lighting thing is the second stupidest and most unnecessary piece of equipment I could ever imagine having in a vehicle, right after remote start.

Its just another upsell/addon etc...

Personally remote start doesnt do anything for me.

And 1 less thing to break.

When u bought my trail and i asked about it and the GM said dont look into installing if it didnt come from factory installed..said something with the ECU causes a headache for post market install.

Said he had a customer come back 3xs for 1 they installed and still not right.

Who knows..maybe it was their techs

"Personally remote start doesnt do anything for me."

You can't drive it if you aren't in it.

This is a big step up from the 1986 Subaru GL wagon I used on the Outer Banks beaches for 14 years. That thing would go anywhere in the sand on 185/70-13 tires. Dual range 5 speed, factory skid plate, 3 position manually adjustable rear shocks and armored exhaust. All factory, including the white spoke wheels. The front sub frame finally rusted apart.

You guys have obviously never gotten into a car and waited for it to warm up when it's - 30 celcius outside.

Are you sure your 4runner doesn't have it? I'm fully expecting mine to start through the 'remote connect' system. There is a monthly fee involved, however. Furthermore I think there's a special way you can activate it using your keys...

YouTube

Thought that was on all trims.

Lol...obviously the guys who are anti-start dont live in cold climates. I wish the 4runners included them. Its God damn bloody cheap to add one, they dont break, I installed one on my 2003 Honda accord for cheap cheap and still going strong.

When it's a blizzard outside and minus 10+... remote start is a saviour!

4runner is always behind the pack, it is what it is. My moms Corolla tech makes my 2019 look like a dinosaur and hers is a 2017 half the price of my truck. I really dont think it has anything to do with cost of build, but other logistic assembly , marketing or just who knows what other build reasons. I'm not that smart to figure out the brains that make these decisions.

That’s what I thought...

...but no, mine won’t do it that way. Maybe it will do it with remote connect but I don’t like the idea of hundreds of little suckers on my wallet, you know like
Netflix, Pandora and all the other ones!

I have remote start on my 2019 ORP and never use it. The car I sold to buy the 2019 was a 2014 RX350. It had it and I didn't even know it. The folks I sold it to asked if it had it and I told them I didn't think so. I dug out the spare key fob and sure enough it had the little tag on it explaining the remote start. I felt like a dumbass but this is something I don't have any need for.

Long ago I lived in Wisconsin (cold climate). I never trotted out to my car in the am to start it to let it idle. One it wastes fuel, and two it takes forever and a day to get a stone cold engine to warm to operating temperature at idle (re-read nbr one). Start it, let it idle 30 seconds and start moving. The vehicle gets warm much much quicker when in motion. And put some gloves on.

I now live in NC and I still see bozos warming their trucks in the driveway because they just can't tolerate a cold seat

Okay I think we're all on the same page then. Ya, I never use it in the summer time.

I think if you declined the remote connect service it might not be activated. Might have read somewhere you need that for it to work. This is only a theory which I am mildly confident in.

The 2020 trd pro has native remote start. Press the lock button three times quickly and hold the lock button on the third press.
