Not counting today, this week has one more day. But I'd keep driving it like you have for the last week. Good luck, really!

Yea, get it in. Perhaps a computer issue with the traction control? Try disengaging traction control and see what happens. I can't imagine the rotors being warped but you never know.

I appreciate the help guys, really. I'm taking it in to get it serviced today.

For what it's worth - this has been happening (granted, to a lesser extent) for weeks now, even before it was snowy/icy outside. And the same rattling happens when I accelerate.

Generally, my car has not handled the snow/ice well at all. This issue + general weird transmission jolting/noises. I really don't have a good feeling about it. I'm leaning toward building a lemon law case right now.

It could be anything. It could be something very simple like a brake pad separated or caliper binding. It could be the computer. It could be a wheel sensor. Something could be out of calibration. you may be operating 4WD incorrectly. There are too many things we don't know. Let us know what the dealer says.

You're not driving in 4LO are you? Crawl control?

only thing that comes to mind is i recently drove down a mountain using engine braking to slow myself and perhaps did it wrong? i never went faster than 30-40 mph while on S3/S4 and nothing ever sounded or felt wrong.

thanks in advance
Any updates? It kind of sounds like it was acting as if ATRAC or HDC was engaged. Bad ABS sensor?

I was given a loaner sr5, base model 2019. It had 355 miles on the odometer and the brakes were pulsing when i got it. It was a slight pulse nothing too bad, but noticeable.

My 2018 4runner doesnt do that. Thank god.

YET.

Lol

What did the problem turn out to be?

I've raced all kinds of stuff my whole life so I know how to care for my brakes so take that for what it's worth.

My 17' OR had the same issue right away as well. My daily drive is less than ideal conditions for brakes short of a road course track. Two-lane highway at speeds of 70 mph with the occasional stoplight every 4 or 5 miles which eventually catch you.

From day one I noticed the peddle feel was horrible and really spongy. Then after a few thousand miles, I started getting a very, very light flutter in the peddle when braking lightly. This progressed until is started getting noticeably worse but what really got bad was how grabby the pads became and it was unpredictable. Occasionally the brakes would grab as if digging into the rotors and brake 10x harder than I intended to the point of engaging some tire locking.

From my research, it looks to be very common and even common on other Toyota products. I think they have a brake pad composition issue! I didn't care to have factory junk brakes put back on so I just solved the problem myself by replacing the pads with Akebono ceramic pads and all the rotors with Raybestos slotted type. Now the peddle feels completely normal, as does the braking which is very linear verses erratic before. I absolutely love this combination!! Got the pads on Amazon and rotors from RockAuto.

hey guys sorry I haven't had a chance to update. unfortunately the issue still persists. once it got snowy/icy here, my main complaint was that the ABS is triggered very easily in the snow/ice. Like, just driving around the neighrborhood, every 5 seconds the ABS kicks in. i know folks will say "well yeah, that's just your ABS working properly" -- i don't think your ABS is supposed to come on literally every single time you press the breaks when it's snowing outside (and sometimes when accelerating!)

the Toyota dealer actually let me drive a brand new 2020 SR5 around the lot, where there was some ice, and the ABS was triggering just as easily. i let the issue go at the time, but ABS funkyness aside, my car still vibrates when i brake (usually toward the end, when im coming to a full stop). for what it's worth - when it's snowing, my ABS comes on even when i'm not directly driving over snow/ice (for instance, it comes on if I slam the brakes in a paved underground garage with no snow/ice).

i still dont feel comfortable in my car. i'd like Toyota to check out my rotors, lug nuts, ABS sensor, computers, brake pads, literally everything under the sun and tell me my car is fine. i have no idea how to get them to do this -- any advice is welcome.

separately... the guy who helped me at Toyota service really did not want to take my car in. kept having an explanation for all my questions until I left. I thought the manufacturer paid them to service the cars. why were they turning me away?
