I really wanted to do this when we replaced our door this year but it would have been several thousand in work just to move the header up since our roof is a Hip and Valley.

So, what we did is get a track that ran up about a foot higher than normal which at least made sure the door was completely out of the way and the tailgate can open once inside.

Really it just means I can't put a rooftop box on it which I'd really like to have for winter.

Nicely done. The end result looks really good and seamless.

We sort of cheated and had the builder install 9' doors along with the high lift option for a car lift. It's been much more practical for other reasons that we didn't anticipate. Now if we could only add a foot or two of depth and/or width.

I have a 7-foot tall garage door and I can't wait to resize it. I do not understand why the housebuilders do these doors so small, most of the consumers will have to resize that door in a while. Why not just make a nice 10-foot tall dor from the beginning and forget about issues in the future. I have my door resized next week by the guys from advantagegd.com because we got a new car, and it doesn't fit through the garage door. I hope it will end up as nice as yours and I won't have to bother about it anymore.

I would imagine itís all about money. Cost is lower, and people buy them, and itís technically a garage. Lucky to squeeze 2 cars in modern track built homes these days, and forget about a full size truck.
