I really wanted to do this when we replaced our door this year but it would have been several thousand in work just to move the header up since our roof is a Hip and Valley.
So, what we did is get a track that ran up about a foot higher than normal which at least made sure the door was completely out of the way and the tailgate can open once inside.
Really it just means I can't put a rooftop box on it which I'd really like to have for winter.

Nicely done. The end result looks really good and seamless.
We sort of cheated and had the builder install 9' doors along with the high lift option for a car lift. It's been much more practical for other reasons that we didn't anticipate. Now if we could only add a foot or two of depth and/or width.

Oddly enough I’ve been contemplating doing this since I got picked up my hard shell RTT last week. I’ve already got a hanger system for my old truck canopy. Looks great!!

I would imagine it’s all about money. Cost is lower, and people buy them, and it’s technically a garage. Lucky to squeeze 2 cars in modern track built homes these days, and forget about a full size truck.

Nice work! I have 9'. It's probably my favorite thing about this house. Even clears the CB antenna on my Jeep with 37's, and with a foot to spare too! 7' is tough, I used to deal with a single one of those that had about 2' left on each side once you pulled in, too. Made work like axle swaps a real challenge.

Don't forget, you can also get low profile/high clearance tracks for the opener that might allow a shorter door opening to work... if the door opener hardware is the limiting factor.

I have a workshop with 7' doors built by the previous owner he used to store his collection of motorcycles in so height wasn't a concern for him (or power) but that's another story. The doors that face the driveway are a load bearing wall and on the eave side of the roof so no chance of raising without lifting the whole building or tearing down & starting over. Luckily there is a 3rd door on a non-load bearing wall that I could temporarily remove the door & header and use a forklift to get my toy in....

Nice job!
I had the garage in mind for my trucks when looking to purchase my home. Took a while to find the right one. Height is fine and I just squeak by with the width of the doors.

Even if you're not thinking about your garage, resizing your garage door can be the appropriate option for you. Because garages in southern California are so costly, some homeowners construct more oversized garages. They purchase a tiny house and build a separate garage. They provide additional storage space in the garage. I dealt with the top gate specialists, who installed a fantastic garage door opener and cared for my garage. It's now 8 feet tall, and I'm pleased with its job. These guys, in my opinion, are the greatest on the market right now.
