Thoughts on Fender Flares??

I had them on my silver Ram 1500 and not only liked the look, but they actually protected my truck when someone clipped my quarter panel with their front end. ZERO damage with minor scratches to the fender flare/quarter panel cover.

I am thinking matte black fender flares by Bushwacker might look good on Army green, and add some extra protection.

Do they have to be drilled into the frame?

And does anyone who has them not like them for any reason? Any negatives?

Its not going to protect anything if someone hits it. They might of completely missed your Ram if it didn't have the flares on.

I was looking to get Bushwackers to keep my tires in the fender. I ended up not needing them but from what I saw they don't add much.

They do not have to be drilled into the frame. I see you are in Louisiana, I have a set of bushwackers in Baton Rouge that I am not going to put back on. If you want to take a look at them.

It's mostly for the overall look (more black accents against the AG color), as opposed to real 'body armor'. I'm just mentioning that what happened to me with those on saved my paint from getting scratched/worse.

I know you weren't thinking its body armor.

But I don't think it protected anything the extra 1/2" or whatever it stuck out prolly got it scratched. Dumb asses shouldn't of gotten that close to begin with but what can you do.

if bushwhacker made them without the fake rivets, i'd be all over it.

I had bushwhackers on my previous vehicle (tundra) without the fake rivets that were painted to match, and i liked them alot.

Only thing with wider fender flares, is that they tend to look silly without wider wheels (or more negative offset wheel specs)....don't want your vehicle look like they skipped leg day at the gym now do we?

Had them on my 14 4Runner they were OK. Would not do it again. They bolt from underneath in the fender well and you can actually pull back on them. when I took them off because I cracked one while wheeling I was surprised how much crap got behind them over time.

I'm glad my 2012 Trail Edition came stock with black fender flares. Unfortunate that even the TRD Pro's don't do contrasting flares.

lol good point. I don't plan on doing a lift but likely will get some spacers and go to at least a 275/70/17 Falken down the road. I actually like the stock Nittos for now

OP- if all you are after is contrast to break up some of the AG color I'd suggest to just buy OEM flares that come non-painted in black. Then you can wrap a clear satin on it if you like. Or you can just have the existing ones wrapped in black. I think the bush whacker ones are too big for our rigs and do not look to scale.
