SOS red light is always on
So I got my new 2020 TRD off road premium last week. I had the “Sos service” cancelled. All was well for a while. When I turned the vehicle on, the green and red lights would alternatively light up and then go off.
Now, the red light is on. This apparently indicates a malfunction with the module.
I am going to go have the dealer take a look at this but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what was going on.
Thanks...

If you canceled the service, I would assume red means there is a fault, like having no service activated.
On mine I just pulled the Mayday fuse under hood to disable tracking.

According to the manual, all of the lights should have been off. According to the manual, the red light means you need to see the dealer...
...which I did after they told me not to worry about making an appointment. They concluded that the telematic module had failed and ordered another one. It’s apparently behind the radio so it won’t require major surgery to replace.
Bummer to have this go bad but I guess “It happens”...

Update: On the way home, I called the Toyota people who manage the remote services (the ones I called to have everything turned off) to see if they had any insights. They did not. For the heck of it, I asked if they could turn everything (Service connect, Safety connect, destination assist) back on. They said no problem and did. That was about 16:00 on the 31st. When I parked the vehicle for the night (about 16:30) the red light was still on and when I pushed the SOS button, a voice would say something to the effect that the module was not active, and give me a number to call.
Well, the next morning, when I started the vehicle, the green light turned on and a voice said "module communication activated" or something to that effect.
This has me wondering if the red light was indeed the result of me asking to turn all of the services, or one of them.
For now, I am going to leave everything on (Service wise). I'll call the dealer on Monday and let them know what happened. I am hesitant to have the module replaced if it's not really bad.
Question: Has anyone else had all of their remote services turned off? If so, did all the lights next to the SOS button stay off, as per the owners manual?
Thanks...

I have not had the services active since my trial ran out sometime after purchasing new. For me, the SOS letters continue to stay lit all the time. The green and red indicator lights turn on an off when I first start the vehicle. Neither of the two indicator lights remain on though however.

All things considered, the following morning, when I began the vehicle, the green light turned on and a voice said "module correspondence actuated" or something like that.

Did you also turn off the "service connect" stuff? I'm curious...I want to kill the tracking BS but still appreciate having the remote start and lock through the app. Not the end of the world if that goes away too...privacy vs convenience.

Sounds as if this was designed by the Entune group.

Not that I've seen it in this thread, but it's funny how riled up some people get about this tracking/privacy stuff.
Let me boil it down for you. This is the age where you have to expect and accept that ANY of your information can be hacked, bought, or happened upon at any time. There are some good ways to protect identity theft, but that doesn't mean your information isn't out there. If you have a cell phone, a medical record, criminal record, are a consumer at any level or involved with any organization, "they" know all about you.
For most law abiding people this isn't a big deal. If someone wants to track me through my Toyota to the office and grocery store and back, have fun. Hope they're not looking for anything exciting because they'll be disappointed.

Sure but it didn't take long for the "if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear" crowd to make an appearance.

Sorry, but we SHOULD be getting riled up about this tracking/privacy stuff.
Why does Toyota, or any other company need to STORE information about where you go? They don't. They only do it because that information can be sold, because it has a monetary value.
And that doesn't even begin to get into the issues of the government being able to track you without your consent.

I'd like to think that's because the majority of us don't have anything to hide, but that may be wishful thinking.

Look guys, I'm not saying or even implying that privacy shouldn't be just that, but rather am pointing out that taking up this issue broadly is a losing proposition. If you want to meet it head on awesome, good on you, it's just not the hill I want to die on. I only have so much time in the day and so many days till they run out. There, to me, are more important things to focus on.
