New Car Burning Smell

I purchased my 2019 TRDOR about a month and 1,700 miles ago and I've noticed a burning smell. At first I wasn't too concerned as I'm sure there's a lot of stuff that needs to burn off but given the mileage I'm becoming more worried. I now only notice it during heavy acceleration and the smell reminds me of cordite from a shooting range.

I tried searching but could only find stuff talking about the first few days/hundred miles of driving. Is this normal or something that I should be worried about?

I noticed the same with my July 4R under heaver driving after the inital 500mi. I stopped noticing it after 5k service.

I did an easy breaking in on my 4R, varying RPM and speed never at a consistent sped for any length of time for the first 600mi. Unlike my Mazda 3 which i revved high at 300mi and noticed the same thing/smell.

Give it another 1300mi.

Mine had that hot oil or burning brakes kind of smell for the first few times I did anything (freeway speed, engine braking, engage 4Lo, etc). The last time I noticed it was probably well over 1000mi.

A lot of new owners complain about a burning rubber/plastic smell coming from the rear passenger side tire area for the first several thousand miles or so. Most indications seem to point to the rubber exhaust hangers heating up.

Catalytic converter. Beat on the truck a little bit and the smell will go away quickly.

If memory serves me, back when all Japanese cars were shipped from Japan they all had that burning chemical smell for the first few thousand miles. I believe it was a spray on rust preventative to protect the cars during transport on ships.

I noticed it immediately when I purchased my 2019 4Runner
