You can actually buy air fresheners with “that new car smell”. I bought one by mistake once. It smelled gross and I threw it out.

We bought some new flannel bed sheets at BB&B yesterday and after two washings they still had new sheet smell, which unfortunately happened to smell like motor oil and left the washing machine with the same smell. Didn't want to stink up the dryer so my wife returned the sheets wet lol.

All of this is to say: new anything smell is overrated.

Bought my 4R in '18. First brand new car in 8 years..WhenI drove it off the lot I recall the 4R didn't particularly have an overpowering new car smell, which was fine with me..The smell is still there if it sits for a day or two without driving it..

I've owned a lot of Japanese cars and it's an interesting fact that the Japanese do not like the distinct smell of leather interiors. They reintroduce the smell for the US market on cars that are sold in both markets. It's not surprising as they're very particular about the details.
They also don't like leather either, apparently. Something about the seat material making too much noise. The super fancy Toyota Century has wool seats. Let people try that in Houston!

I hate the new car smell, so I usually sacrifice the first owner to obsorb it out of the car, lol

A surprise to see so many confirm lack of new car smell in their 4Runners. I honestly thought it was unique to my vehicle. Also unexpected to hear so many don't like the new car scent.
