I personally would order them plated because it's a potential injury situation with my dog. As she's a senior citizen now, she "misses" on her jumps sometimes and falls back out of vehicles. Her leg could get caught and break without the plate. Just my $.02.

Just sold my angled sliders without the top plate and replaced them with flat sliders with step plates.

After the lift my wife said the angled sliders without step plates had to go. She never liked them, but finally said she had enough. When we were in our 20s it wouldn’t have been a problem. We’re in our 50s now so she wasn’t having it. A few outings in heels really sealed the deal.

Honestly, I liked the look of the step free angled sliders better but I’ll admit It’s so much easier for me to get in and out now. I’m glad she insisted they go.

I have the same concern, except regarding my wife. She needs a solid step, and would definitely end up getting her leg caught without a plate.

I ordered 5 degree sliders with tread plate from rsi...I am not a hard core off-roader, but I do have a wife and young child who could use the step

Thanks everyone for the your input!

Me and me wife are in our 30's and about 6' so getting in and out shouldn't be a problem but I'll make sure to check with her

Living in Denver, I want to buy local. So far I found RSG, RCI, Slee Offroad and Toytec. Does anyone run any of these? If you do, could you post some pics and your feedback?

Thanks

I have the angled RSG with top plate, and bump out and absolutely love them. I use them as a step to put stuff on/off roof rack. I have a shorter wide, a 3 year old, a 1 year old, and dogs so the top plate just makes more sense. The top plate also protects rocks, mud flinging up on the doors. Would really suck to slip and have your ankle go down in between the slider.

Install:
Removed only the necessary little plastic plugs in the frame, then cleaned the frame with some isoproyl alcohol. After feeling how harsh the threads were I decided to run a tap through to clean the threads rust up (East coast truck). I then held the sliders up, bolted em all on finger tight, and then pulled 1 bolt back out at a time to coat with some anti-seize, then finger tighten back up. After all bolts were anti-seized and back in I went around and snugged them all down relatively evenly.

After running no running boards for a few months having these on feels great to use a step.

I will throw one out for RCI. I have a full set of RCI alu skids and a few other pieces of armor, not their sliders. I have used their customer service, it did take a couple of days to respond via email (my bad really, I emailed Friday after lunch), when they responded turnaround via conversation was quick, they were very helpful and accommodating, even so much as to send me some free replacement hardware with my inquiry/order.

Pros:
1. act like mudflaps/rock/pebble guards and keeps the side of your vehicle pretty clean. I run pretty aggressive offset wheels, so this is a big bonus to me.

2. If you have a significant other that wears "fashionable" shoes with heels. You will want plates. happy wife, happy life.

3. sless slippery

cons:.
1. they weigh more
2. they require more rust maintenance
3. they are more expensive.

I don't regret my purchase one bit. You can also buy sliders with half plates, or big huge holes, and everything in between...so you have alot of options out there.

check out the slider threads
Removable top plates... hmm... tell us more. Which manufacturer?

I went RCI plated just cause I thought they looked good and maybe had better traction. After having them, not sure the traction comes into play. Still like them a lot.
Wondering why Cali people are worried about rust though...Yes rust happens, I get that.

Top plate for sure!! IMO I think it just gives it a cleaner look.
