Rock Sliders: thread plate or not?

I'm about to get rid of my predator steps and install a set of rock sliders.

I'm now trying to decide if the additional thread plate is worth the additional money.
Other then being easier to step on, what are some other benefits?

Thanks!

I ordered without, no issues. I originally ordered flat with tread plate and cancelled/reordered angled without tread.

I like my angled up Shrockworks without steps. I wanted the least noticeable, cleanest slider that sits close to the vehicle. My 5 year old son and my 5’3” wife have no problem using the tube as a step.

i have rock sliders that come with removeable/full diamond plating.

Pros:
1. act like mudflaps/rock/pebble guards and keeps the side of your vehicle pretty clean. I run pretty aggressive offset wheels, so this is a big bonus to me.

2. If you have a significant other that wears "fashionable" shoes with heels. You will want plates. happy wife, happy life.

3. sless slippery

cons:.
1. they weigh more
2. they require more rust maintenance
3. they are more expensive.

I don't regret my purchase one bit. You can also buy sliders with half plates, or big huge holes, and everything in between...so you have alot of options out there.

check out the slider threads

Good point if you run an aggressive offset.

Angled, kickout with no top plate looks the best,

Other reason I went that route is I didn't want to wait the lead time for powdercoat so I didnt want to try and paint the top plate as well. Plus it was cheaper.

I went angled and plated, RSG. Honestly with the angle I don’t think my feet ever touch the plate. But they do provide better mud, snow, pebble and rock protection. Pretty easy to see when it gets dirty.

Also if you want a step getting a kick out option really helps

Personal opinion, I prefer the look. Just tubes look unfinished and old school Jeep to me. But they would be easier to clean and paint.

The con on all of them, in particular if you have wider offset wheels, is the back tire throwing everything on top of the slider in the rear. I have been thinking about doing a small custom flap there with some generic Rally Armor flaps. Safety is the biggest concern with ice build up.

Plate it!! Just went through the same. Went with AOE4x4 slider with partial plate. Makes for a nice step. They use the plate as added bracing in the center of the slider vice adding more tube. My wife uses them as the step. If that was not the case, I would have gone angled with no plate to keep them tight under the body.
If you need the step for what ever reason go with the plate.

Depends, you like high and tight or not.

I wanted more of a running board type, shrockworks step slider, so my me/dog/human friends had an extra step if they needed it. Makes a nice step to get up on the rear wheel to get to the roof. The extra splatter protection is a bonus, rust... meh that’s some thick steel, take ages to rust through, your frame will rust out faster, but “unsightly” if you’re a instagramian. I think slightly better door ding protection when your work with a bunch of asshats that like to fling there doors open, too.

having a tread plate will limit your lifting and recovery options, without the tread plate you can wrap a soft shackle anywhere on the slider. that being said, i have a small tread plate and it hasn't limited me so far (and it does seem to block some rocks from being thrown up, which was a nice surprise)

His are RSG, same ones I have. They are absolutely fantastic. They also always run a $100 off coupon. I had mine at my door in about a week.
