Yep...

I'm just chiming in to reconfirm that this mod works beautifully. I ended up using an M8 - 1.25 x 8mm set screw (it's just what I had on hand). Worked perfectly.

I originally planned on using a dab of red Loctite, however after seeing how easily the stock shift knob came off... I didn't bother.

Yeah some of the earlier models had the back t case. IDK why they got away from that. Automakers think fake chrome and silver paint makes things fancy.

My '15 had a silver t-case knob, so when I did mine I had to buy a black trans and a black t-case knob. They do make a silver trans knob if you prefer to match that way, as well.

I ordered mine from OEM Toyota Parts & Accessories | Lowe Toyota Parts Center the prices were pretty much the same everywhere but they were the first place I came across that had both knobs in stock.

I'm resurrecting this thread as I just did this swap myself with an 8mm set screw. However, the knob turns until it's just about tight then, with about another quarter turn, it's suddenly more loose than it was. Rinse and repeat when I start to turn it again. Should I just dab it with a little blue Loctite? Wrap some plumbers tape on the lever before the knob goes on? Ideas on what my issue is? Thanks all!

Maybe you overturned and wore out the plastic threads on this inside? I actually did the same thing and ended up just replacing it. Though I did just live with it for a while. Maybe the loctite idea might work?!?

I was wondering if I wore out the threads myself. Hopefully that's not the case but we will see. I'd really like to not have to buy a second one haha

It’s been a few years but I just inserted a small 3D printed spacer inside the shifter. From what I remember, the shifter is a bit tall for the 5th gen threaded shifter rod. Don’t quote me on that, I can be wrong…

You thread it inside the shaft so it acts as a spacer to give you enough space so the shifter does not hit the bezel trim piece.
