Really Appreciate the help guys

Has anyone used the Thule Motion XT XL? I see a few people posted they used the Motion XT L.

I want the LFD crossbars, and other folks have used the Thule Aero Blades with the XT XL. I'm just hoping someone has used the LFD crossbars (with the factory side rails) and a Thule Motion XT XL, I'd like to know if the rear door will open without interference.

Thanks

Have you found out any updates on this?

I'm in the same boat - I ski a lot and rock 188s (looking at some 193 black crows ) so a Motion XT L isn't quite long enough. I've got a Thule 2100 Atlantis, but that thing is too big (about the size of the Motion XXL) and I can't open the hatch on factory cross bars - which was making me look into the LFD's.

The LFD bars give enough height that I don't have to worry about the box coming in contact with the roof anymore. Plus, that box looks good on a 4Runner.

Is any special hardware needed to mount the Motion XTL?

I currently have a set of ActionTrax, an awning, my hi-lift, and a WaterPort mounted up there. The WaterPort doesn't stay up there, just the mounting plate. I hate a hardshell waterproof camera case mounted up there with a tow strap and ratchet straps, but took it down to mount the WaterPort. Mounting a rifle case up there for recovery storage seems to be a common theme.

Not at all. The clamps have a rubberized coating that now have some indentations from clamping around the LFD Crossbars but it doesn't impact how well it holds. I've probably driven 6K miles with the box on the roof with no issues at all.

*faring options found on the site

How is the roof noise with the cross bars? I looked on their site and didn’t see a wind fairing as an option.

Wind fairings are definitely available... In steel or aluminum.

If you read back through the main LFD Thread most of the people say there is no sound difference with the crossbars.

I have their full length rack and can say the sound difference isn't huge even with that

I haven't been on the LFD site in a while, but they do offer wind fairings and you do need one. Without a fairing these bars are LOUD.

There is a wind fairing....

I am thinking of going for the fairing simply because I think it will look cool, I have gotten accustomed to the roar from the crossbars.

I can verify the Thule Evolution 1600 fits on the LFD crossbars and it does not fit on the stock crossbars. The LFD bars give it JUST enough clearance.
Thule doesn't make the 1600 anymore I don't think but if you see one used it will work and it holds a lot of stuff. It's big.

Ive got a Thule Force XT XL and looking into the LFD cross bars. My box currently rests on the fin antenna so I am wondering if anyone has purchased these crossbars that has the same box to see if they have any clearance issues.

This is with a Thule Motion XT L - which is 6'5" vs the Force XT XL at 6'10.75" according to REI.

Mounted on two LFD crossbars. No issue with hatch clearance - the pic shows the box mounted as far back as I could with about an inch clearance when hatch is raised. I've since moved it forward about two inches for better aerodynamics.

LFD crossbars are awesome - much stronger than OEM, and very flexible in how you can adapt it for use.

If you run the stock rails, whats the point of getting aftermarket cross bars? Isn't the total weight load the same?

For me, it was a no brained to get LFD cross bars since my 4R didn’t come with them. LFDs were similar in price to new OEM crossbars and is much more versatile. E.g., I was able to mount my awning using standard brackets without drilling into the crossbars, and also in the future when I want to mount more accessories up top, I can add a couple of crossbars and get some of the functionality of a full aftermarket system. BTW, unlike OEM, I was able to stand on the LFD crossbars with zero flex.
