Hi everyone,
long story short about 2 years ago we bought a 2015 4-runner for my wife and in less then a year it got totaled while parked outside. insurance reimbursed us and we found a good deal on a 2014 4 runner a few month later and picked it up. I keep finding it annoying to only have 1 key for a car and we still have the Key FOB from our previous 2015 4runner .
So i called Toyota and they want $190 for the key and ~$150 for labor for setting the key up, plus tax of course...which is insane to say the least. They also told me the 2015 Key FOB is not backwards compatible with my 2014 4runner.
I wanted to get advice from the collective minds here on whether her statements were true or not as i find most employees at the dealership have absolutely no clue about what they are talking about.
attached is the image of the key FOB, they are both the keyless entry remote key FOB. the 2015 4-runner was an SR5 and the current 2014 4runner is an SR5 premium.
Thanks in advance!
