I got my 2019 to replace a 2016 Ecoboost F150. Yeah, the Ecoboost was a faster truck, for sure, but I don't think the 4Runner is that slow.
Well, with one exception. Above 10k feet in CO it was slow. Turbo motors do very well at elevation, of course and my Ecboost was magic up there. That said, I was doable. I live at 400 feet, so no issues here. I'd even be OK with it at elevation.
For the kind of vehicle it is and what it does, the power is very adequate. It's not fast but I'm good with it.

W/ the 4Runner, I'll get to the destination 5-10 minutes later, but not so wound up w/ rage (fewer "altercations" w/ other drivers, no flashing red/blue lights behind me on side of the road, etc.). Now I just need make it to retirement and get the F out of Dodge (Denver).

I completely agree with this. I drive my 2019 Raptor like I stole it. The raptor isn't a ferrari but has a lot more power and acceleration than the T4R's I've test driven. It seems that the most powerful vehicles I've owned have been a more stressful experience overall. Weird but true.

I drove some powerful and fast SUV’s for pest 12 years, like GLS 450 , lease those every 3 years and they are $80k+ cars. Not reliable, not cool, but very fast and powerful trucks. Now I bought my T4R for $43k because it is reliable and cool. It does what it made for, good enough for me.love my T4R!!!

The thing's a dog, and the 'makes a lot of noise but doesn't go any faster' nature of it's engine at high RPM gives away how old this V6 is. Modern engines have flatter curves. My Tahoe, though much heavier, I have no doubt can get out on the 4Runner at any speed.

On vacation right now in Hawaii, driving a brand new Tahoe V8... and this thing is retarded. What a let-down; this thing is extremely sluggish, does not sound like a V8 at all, and seeing that most locals drive 4Rs... makes me want to sit in mine.

10.69 seconds at 6,000 ft. elevation.
I highly doubt at sea level it is under 8. Maybe an SR5 with 1 gallon of gas and a 100 lb woman driving it you might see 8.9 or something like that.

I've got a short commute to work and most of my driving is on surface roads, very little highway for the most part. In that regards the 4r feels fine. The tranny shift point leave a lot to be desired in stop and go traffic but I've learned to live with the quirks and it will sprint from light to light easily enough..Previous vehicle was a late model crown vic, entirely different sort of vehicle but that thing was built for the highway. That aside I enjoyed taking my 4R on long road trip, 600 miles up and back to W. Va including some mountain driving. The 4R never felt lacking from a power perspective, but it was just me in the car with very little luggage..
Where I have noticed it needs help is when you're trying to merge with traffic at say 70 or 75, getting it up to 80 and above takes a little extra effort so I find my self pushing the pedal down further. Not really a big deal just required an adjustment to my driving style..the PC has also helped.

Judging by the other vehicles, you seem to have more dollars than sense. Pun intended. That's fine. Most of us are the opposite. A 4Runner is not meant to be a modern day hot rod. It also won't even give you 1/4 of the problems those others will.

it's definitely slow. my 98 manual was much faster accelerating. I don't mind though. For me, my 2019 TRD ORP w/ KDSS is a modern comfort vehicle (by this i mean compared to my other cars, which have all been at least 17 years old). I didn't buy it to drive fast. I bought to be comfortable, reliable, predictable, safe, functional. I bought to have a sunroof and a good stereo and be able to carry my big ol dog and some gear and go offroad, but still drive predictably and reliably and comfortably on the highway. It does that.
I'll probably add a motorcycle or performance car next year for the days I want to be a lunatic.

It is adequate to me as I used to drive a 118 hp 22R in a 92 Toyota Pickup Longbed. But it would have been really cool to have the 6-speed that is in the GX and 4.56 gears, or even the 4.10 that is in the Rubicon would have been better than the 3.73.

Get the Pedal Commander and in just about ANY setting it will completely change your mind! As for numbers, the 4Runner is equal to the Jeep Wrangler and not out of the ballpark for WHAT it is. BOF 4 wheel drive and solidly built.

Chevrolet Tahoe 2020
LS 4x4 5.3L V8
HP: 355
TQ: 383
0-60: 6.6 sec
1/4 mile: 15.2 @ 92
Toyota 4Runner 2020
SR5 4dr 4x4
HP: 270
TQ: 278
0-60: 7.3 sec,
1/4 mile: 15.5 @ 86
Keep in mind too that this is the smaller of the two V8's offered in the Tahoe, and it is still quite a bit faster than the only powertrain offered in the 4runner. I mean, 383lb ft is sluggish compared to your 4runner?

It’s not the vehicle, it’s the driver.
I can go from my 4Runner to my 300ZX in traffic and have the same experience. It’s about reading the traffic ahead of you, not HP.
