I guess I won't be waiting for the next generation.

The 4Runner is not a best-selling priority for Toyota. And sales of this 2009-era dinosaur have been going swimmingly, thank us very much.

With the grudging updates in 2020s, I can’t imagine a redesign until MY2023. Don’t get me wrong: I think they should have resigned it in 2018.

But waiting for 4Runner’s modest sales to crater might not be the best redesign trigger for anyone keen to see the Sixth Gen.

I said this before, but regarding the current generation, I do not think it really "came out" until 2014 or so. I know it came in 2010, but due to the economy, nothing was really selling until 2014 or so, which makes it feel like it is sort of a more recent model than one dating back to 2010.

With all due respect this is a bit overdramatic. So the Dems would get rid of the 4Runner, along with v8 pickups, full-size SUVs, half the mid-sized SUVs, plus the V8 Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers, etc etc? Seems pretty far-fetched. Lots of Democrats drive really big vehicles...

Not sure how 2019 numbers will look, but I think Toyota will be milking this as much as they can.
Why change anything with numbers like that?

I for one think dinosaurs are ****in' rad. I'd much rather be charging around in my 4Runner Triceratops than a Kia Platypus.

Maybe the 4Runner would be grandfathered in and they just keep selling the 5th generation. Who knows.
The auto industry has about a 5 year lead time on developing new models. As a result, they make deals (as an entire industry) with the gov't regarding lead times for future safety requirements, fuel regulations, ect.... That's why you hear things like "in 2025 mpg's need to be 5% better on average than they are today." Car manufacturers are not sitting in a room waiting to see who is elected to dictate what they do a year or two in advance. It wouldn't be feasible for anyone in the industry.

Also, fuel regs are calculated as an entire fleet so if one vehicle gets shitty mileage, another in their fleet that gets excellent mileage can compensate and average the mpg's out.

Prius anyone?

The date is correct. For the first time, this is confirmed material. It parallels new Sequoia coming after Tundra, but not Tacoma.

Just in case Toyota is listening to all of our rabid fan base suggestions, I have two more-

1. Get rid of keyless ignitions! Use Face ID or sense my iPhone and get rid of keys! Nothing is more annoying then the convenience of not needing to put your key in a hole. The ignition was such a good place to store them while you’re driving around. Are they in my pocket, did I leave them in the cup holder, did I bring them in the house by accident? girlfriend: where in my purse are they I know I have them bc my car started, etc etc.

2. Garage door opener should not work without the key present. Very dangerous anyone can break in to your car and gain access to your home. Home alarm or not. Girlfriends Lexus ES is the same. Kind of surprised on this oversight.

Here's a slide that was posted by a well known SoCal internet sales manager in some circles... Looks like 2022 for Sequoia and 4Runner.
