Weird noise under my brand new 2020
Hey Gents-
Just picked up my TRDP this afternoon. 4 miles on it when I picked it up.
I drove it home and let it sit for a few hours, then went out for two short drives. The speeds were under 35MPH.
Something underneath the truck in the back sounds like it’s rattling like crazy. I originally thought it was the license plate rattling, given how loud it was. Something sounds very loose.
BUT, I’m not really too familiar with the platform yet. Is there a break-in for the suspension or anything where it’s just making a ton of noise in the beginning? At one point I thought I heard rotational grinding as well, but I haven’t heard that since. Might have been on a turn or something.
Any ideas? I’m try and get a video of it with the Go-Pro tomorrow if I can find a way to confidently mount it.

Congratulations on your new Toy !
I would let the dealer look at it... it is not normal !
It's probably something minor like a heat shield but it's definitely not normal.

Lots of reports here with 2020 pros and funny noises; spare tire rubbing, fox shocks at low speed in cold temps, etc.

Gotcha. Seems strange taking it back with less than 50 miles on it, but that's probably what I'll do

Is the spare tire snugged up? Also check the chain that pulls it up, it hangs out the hole in the center of the rim.

I had a look at the tire very briefly last night to make sure it wasn't falling off the truck, but it seemed to be ok. The chain is hanging there loose and could definitely be hitting the rim. That said, I'm 99% sure that's not the noise. It sounds atrocious, whatever it is. It's not a minor clanking

Check lug nuts. TRD Pro ships with steel wheels, Pro wheels are installed at the port. Dealer should be checking them just like they should be doing an inspection and greasing everything but we all know that never happens. If it's not something super obvious, bring it back and let them fix it.

Sorry to hear that you are getting bad sounds. Is your car totally new to second-hand?

Check the jack in the rear, on the drive’s side.
If it is not tightened up, it will rattle loudly over bumps

The way you described the sound when you made a low speed turn sounds very similar to what I’ve been dealing with. It’s coming from the passenger rear, yes?
Let me know what your dealer says because Toyota told my dealer that they aren’t doing anything else to try to fix mine. I’ve had one shock replaced (front), brake pads replaced (again front), and my dealer tried to order rear shocks but Toyota rejected the order.

New cars definitely have a stiff suspension. Really more of feeling but i suppose it could make sounds not allowing things to flex and lean properly. Sounds like its a loose exhaust hanger.
I had a new vehicle break a piece of the muffler loose once. Didnt hear a rattle but it stalled the motor and took Hyundai 3 weeks solve even after they brought in engineers to figure it out. My explanation was that it felt like something was shoved up the exhaust. They never checked the exhaust system til last even with my description of the issue.
Does the sound increase with throttle? Does the sound increase or appear with speed? Is it just consistent?
Figure that out and itll narrow down potential problems.
When in doubt have them inspect it and dont feel bad about it. If you dont trust them have a trusted mechanic inspect the vehicle and make Toyota handle the repairs if something is found.

Problem solved, I think.
I drove the truck again this morning and noticed that the noise only seemed to develop after it warmed up (say, after about 5 minutes of driving). That seemed to me that it would make a suspension issue the culprit and nothing sounded loose when I jumped up and down on the bumper to get the thing bouncing in the driveway.
I got under the truck and there was a bracket that seems to provide some sort of support to the exhaust heat shield near the spare tire. It clearly was making contact with the heat shield and making a racket when i kinda moved it myself. I stuck a GoPro under there and I couldn't get it in frame, but I wanted it near it to record the noise.
After recording the noise, I dove under the truck and had another look at the bracket. It looked as though I could unbolt it, but I just pried/bent it away from the heat shield so that it wasn't touching and went back out. No noise.
So I think that was it. Can anyone identify what the function/purpose of this is? The pic of it and the video of the noise are below. I can't figure out how to embed the video.
Video of the noise
