another dealer victim
So another dealer victim here. My local dealer when we lived in Toledo Ohio was doing my oil changes. Mostly because I didn't have a garage to do them my self. Well I did my first oil change myself and found bunch of issues.
So the push pin was missing on the front plastic cover. They front metal skid plate had a bunch of thread locker on the bolts. The bolts seem ok when I put it back on but I am guess some are probably partially stripped. Next the bolt for the cover for the oil drain plug snapped off. So the cover was only being held on with one bolt. Third issue is there was two o rings on the drain plug for the filter.
So pretty much like everyone said beware of the dealers. I called and complained but at this point we had already relocated out of state so I knew they were not going to care. I am going to contact Toyota corporate as well and complain but I don't think they are going care much either.

Also interested. I’m in Sylvania and use JW on Central, but not due for service for another 5k miles.

Zero integrity. Imagine having a business where the crappier the work you do on maintenance jobs the more you can make doing repair and warranty work.

The dealer was Yark Toyota in Maumee. I am going to reach out to the general manager as well but I like said I don't really except much to happen. Live and learn. The person I talked to said he would reach out to the techs and he was going to inform his boss as well but I never heard back.

You don’t need a garage to do oil changes. Just a driveway, some hand tools and a couple of containers will save you a lot of headaches.

I would agree but my stay in Ohio was temporary and we lived in apartment complex didn’t allow us to work on cars in the complex.

Jim White isn’t much better. They left my tool bag in the cargo area and the compartment door off when rotating my tires. I still need to confirm the wheel lock key was returned.

In my experience ALL dealerships are filled with the uneducated and incompetent. I was 1 of 3 complimentary oil changes in before deciding they would never touch my vehicle again. They could give me lifetime service and I still wouldn't go back.

If they can't handle an oil change, can they replace an air bag without screwing up?
I doubt it, hence my airbag will go unchanged

Oil changes are done by young guys that don't have much experience, so they screw up a lot . Airbag jobs will be done by more experienced and often certified techs . If a vehicle goes in for simple stuff like oil change and tire rotation it will go to young inexperienced guys.

Certified tech does not mean they are skilled at airbag replacement. Read through all the threads on this forum and others about botched airbag replacement jobs. Some have had no problem that they know of, but how can you tell if it was installed correctly?
In my area I called 8 dealers whose service advisers gave replacement time estimates of 3-4 hours up to 1-2 days, and one wasn't even sure how long it would take. If the certified techs are skilled at airbag replacement, the work time estimates should be more consistent.
Right now I'm doing what Lester Lugnut posted above.

Even with complimentary service I won't go to the dealerships. You need to find a garage you trust. In the Minneapolis area, I've been going to CARspec in Eden Prairie for years. Don't go to the dealership unless I'm purchasing. (Not affiliated with them at all. Just give them my money to maintain my 4Runner...)

Dealer techs are CLUELESS! I got 3 years of free oil changes when I bought my 2016 I have NEVER been to the dealer and never will be. There are countless threads on this. When will people learn?

Yeah - oil changes are done by inexperienced types. The more serious work is supposed to be done by more experienced types who often times work with an IDGAF attitude. Experience w/o good attitude puts you on the same level as the newbies in the lube pits.
Read the stories here and elsewhere on the web about the countless airbag FUs at Toyota dealerships.
