Hi folks....I've dug and can't quite find the answer I need. Wondered if y'all could help...

I've got a 16 4runner w/ 2" fox 2.0's front and back. I am adding a coastal off-road rear steel bumper soon and from what I can tell, I'll need to replace the rear coils. My question is: do I also need to replace the shocks? When I did this for my 3rd gen, I extended the break lines, upgraded bump stops and body mounts, and replaced the rear shocks + added heavy duty coils.

It seems like there isn't as much required with the 5th gen? Can I get away with just replacing rear coils?

I don't think you can get a definitive answer but I'll tell you my experiences. It would be helpful to know the weight of the bumper and the rest of your set-up, especially the weight adding items.

As far as the brake lines go, I've heard opinions both ways. For peace of mind extend them. To save a buck skip it and see if it's a problem. Someone else will probably chime in with a better answer. Mine are extended FWIW.

My understanding is that the bump stops should be extended. And especially changed to a softer compound. The OEM ones are really stiff. All that being said on my rig I went away from the extension when I went to Sonoran Steel's long travel KDSS setup so I could get all the available travel. So far no issues

As far as the 2.0's go, you can run them. I'd change the coils first then see if you think it's a problem. I feel that the 2.5's help handle a heavy rear end and towing better. However, the 2.0's may be just fine for you.

As far as the rear body mounts go I'm not aware of and potential issues there but maybe someone else is. I've never had an issue.

Super helpful...thank you! I'm going with the low profile coastal off-road bumper w/ dual swing aways. All in all looks like 203 LBS + two jerry cans (25 lbs full?) so maybe 228 LBS. Not much in the roof and probably 50 LBS worth of tools in the back.

Not sure which coils...what do you think?

Full Jerry cans will be a bit heavier. the weight of the container plus 40# for water. Just a bit less for gas. (Water is 8#/gallon) So maybe 90# Total.
No Hi Lift or anything? Camping gear?
The difficulty (For me anyway) is finding a good balance between empty and full loaded performance

As far as the coils go I'd check with Mike at Dobinson's. He's super helpful and they makes tons of coils. My set up is much heavier so my coil selection won't help much

Just want to chime in the only thing you will have to do to the body mounts is trim the bolts back. For my coastal bumper I wasn't able to get the bottom piece flush to the frame without trimming the body mount bolts.

It all depends which fox 2.0 you got. There are two versions, one being max 2inch lift and other being 2-3. The bumper will weigh the springs down so definitely hit up dobinson, they will help you decide for the weight and lift amount you want to get. As for bumpstops, yes(but can get away without). If your running a lift, having bumpstops will save your shocks since the factory bumpstops are to high. Will also improve the ride possibly I just installed a rear bumper and moving to icon overland springs, but I also want my rear at least 2.5 inches. Running Fox 2.0 rears with icon 2inch springs.

I recently had a 4x4 Labs bumper and Dobinsons 701v coils installed at the same time. They provide about a 3" lift. I didn't have to extend brake lines but haven't really stressed the new setup out yet either. Previously installed Durobumps in the rear as well. I had Duggy's Garage in Houston install the bumper and coils. They're basically Land Cruiser and Toyota experts but they essentially said I wouldn't need to extend brake lines. I trust their work and word. I think you're good without extending brake lines on a standard or extended travel setup but if you went long travel rear then for sure you'd have to extend them.

This is the perfect amount of lift for me (seen in picture)! What coils did you go with?
