Front Bench Seat

I am wondering if this has been done. It was asked in the 3rd gen threads with little attention. I have never removed any seats or the center console but thinking about putting a bench up front. Could even swap the middle row seats as proof of concept if its narrow enough.

It seems like a lot of effort but could be worth the increased chance of road h***

Thoughts?

You're going to open yourself to getting any insurance claim denied in the future based on doing that, but if that's what you want go for it.

Gonna have to move the transfer case selector (if you have a manual one), the shifter, all electronics and HVAC that run through the center console, all switches in the center console, fix the carpet that doesn't cover everything, remove both power seats, possibly move everything that's located under the seats disable your airbag SRS light because the seats all have airbags in them, find or craft a bench seat that actually fits, somehow (likely unsafely) attach mounting points for a seat belt...

I'm sure I could come up with a whole bunch more, but this seems like something that's going to be way more hassle than it's worth, and definitely not safe for anyone riding in that seat.

Buy an old pickup, clean it up, and chicks will love that just as much.

This is the only benefit that comes to mind, but not worth it when you can just stop off at the truck stop, and have at the glory hole while you rest your legs

Sell the 4Runner and get a new defender if you want the front bench.

I'm just a big fat bastard and bench seat vehicles are the only ones I feel comfortable in. I lament their passing.

And I'm married so any head is off the table.

Thanks

Thank you all for the replies. Yes this seems like to much effort. I may just buy a short-shifter knob and chop the center console to make it easier to lean over. Probably not.
