Telematics brain?

Greetings,

My first post on the forums, and my limited '11 t4r in magnetic grey is my first 4runner.. so far, loving it.

I'm upgrading from a '10 Prius V, so it's a little different. I just finished week one of ownership and 1400 miles. Up until last year, I worked for Toyota corporate in Torrance, but I did nothing car related, entirely computer/engineering work.

I'm not sure if all editions of the t4r come with telematics (aka Safety Connect) pre-installed, but the limited certainly does, I was curious if anyone knows off hand where the brains of the telematics system are located and/or specifically where the antenna and radiochip are for the Verizon chipset that is in it?

I'm looking to de-couple the unit from my 4runner and put it somewhere more useful, like in a box on the shelf in my garage.

Thanks, and I appreciate all the feedback in these forums, I trolled here for weeks before buying

I believe they are located in the sharkfin, based on the repair manual, but let me double check.

Edit: I added the illustrations from the manual, hopefully that gives you what you need. Check nashman's thread for the full manual.

I have a 2015 Limited with Navigation System. Do you have any info on how to replace the Telematics BUB (BACKUP BATTERY)?
