Pics won't do justice. Go to any parking lot and find any new model toyota in MGM. Even better go to the dealer.

As the mutant already mentioned pictures doesn’t help but I can tell you that the flakes are not popping, you really have to take a closer look - the only reason why my wife was able to convince me to that color!

Have you ever owned a black vehicle? They look nice on the lot when they are clean, but they are an absolute nightmare to keep clean, and the slightest imperfection sticks out like a sore thumb.
Every little chip, scratch, and swirl mark is going to be super visible and drive you crazy.

Black is for sure a unforgiving color!
On the other hand the color options on the 4Runner are pretty bad anyways - only ONE non metallic color available except from the army green but that’s only for the pro!
I mean really, the 4Runner is a off road capable SUV so I would really appreciate the opportunity to do repairs to the paint. Sure I could repaint her directly in a nice flat tan and keep always are can for a immediate quick repair but I guess I can’t afford the amount of diamonds that I have to buy after that to make my wife calm down

Bought my 2017 in Midnight Black on Monday.
Color is one of the least important things to me. This one just happens to be black.
It's always going to be dirty because I live in rural AZ.
Last night it had a thick coat of dust on it, after the dealer had just detailed it. This morning it rained and washes the dust off. Now it's covered in mud because our dirt roads wash out.

Mud and dust is something that suits a 4runner really good, wasn’t designed to be shiny queen.
Anyways, nice rig!

never been a fan of toyota's black paint.... even clean its hard to get that deep wet black because of the metallic flakes... it just looks like a dusty black color.. intentional? probably to minimize severity of scratches, swirls, dings, etc etc
its called midnight because it has a bluish tint at certain angles too

have 20 model in black. It is hard to keep clean, but IMO was the best color available at the lot. Grey/silver looked dull, not a fan of regular blue or red. Always like black cars, and 4 runner looks stunning in that color. Mine came with front protection film, so hopefully it will protect from paint chips.
One thing I am not a fan of is blue flakes they have, and no pure black option available. I wish they would have offered it voodoo blue or cement. Sucks that they offer it on taco but not 4runner.

Blue and red are non-metallic. They usually use colored mica.

I did not know that but as far as my research went, the spot repair on this mica painting isn’t easier to match

It's very difficult. A paint gun will lay down metallic or mica differently than if you just use a brush (touch-up) and will differ depending on the volume and air pressure from the gun. Mica will change color as you move around the car especially if they use more than one color of mica. The Limited with the tri-coat paint is even more difficult. First coat is white, second coat contains clear and mica, 3rd coat is just the clear.
