I hear ya, my old ZJ was black, I bought it when it was only 3 years old, and after the first trail scratches I stopped caring about it, especially after it passed ten years old.

Let's be honest though, most people buying new 4R's are using them for exactly that purpose, a pretty mall crawler. Not many people are going to drop 40k on a vehicle then purposely go scratch the hell out of it.

Me, unless it's a dedicated trail rig, I want my stuff to look reasonably nice without much effort. That's why I like my current silver 4R. Not super exciting color, but even when it's dirty it looks fairly clean, and the scratches and whatnot are not easily visible.

Like I said, the Jeep wasn't a big deal, but I nearly drove myself insane trying to keep my black 98 T/A clean. Washed and waxed that thing at least weekly.

The salesman assisting me was frustrated.
Salesman: "What color?"
Me: "don't care"
S: "Moonroof". Me: "nope".
S: "Navigation". Me: "Don't care".
On and on...
Too bad no one sells a stripped down model of anything anymore.
Granted, a/c will be nice next summer. My pickup doesn't have a/c. 120°+ driving with the windows down, people look at me funny. They don't realize that my dash doesn't even have a/c vents.
So the color is not even a concern.
