Getting USB Hub to Control 2 Devices

I have tried 2 separate USB hubs to attempt to connect my Pixel 2 Android phone and my ancient Apple Classic iPod and cannot get them to both work. I can get each to work separately on either hub by disconnecting the other device so they do work individually. Each hub has 4 connection slots, but I am only using 2 or 1 of them. 1 works-2 does not. 2 plugged in and Android Auto is shown on screen along with usb (which does nothing). If I unplug the phone the usb device changes to Rob's iPod and that interface works just fine.

Does Toyota have a particular brand of hub that will allow 2 units to be connected?

P. 118 of the Navigation Users Manual states:

118 4-1. Basic operation
4RUNNER_Navi_(U)
1 Display the audio source
selection screen. (P.117)
2 Select “Reorder”.
3 Select the desired audio
source then or to reor-
der.
4 Select “OK”.
1 Open the lid and connect a
device.
Type A
Type B
Turn on the power of the
device if it is not turned on.
●If a USB hub is plugged-in, two
devices can be connected at a
time.
●Even if a USB hub is used to con-
nect more than two USB devices,
only the first two connected
devices will be recognized.
●If a USB hub that has more than
two ports is connected to the USB
port, devices connected to the
USB hub may not charge or be
operable, as the supply of current
may be insufficient.

I really liked keeping my iPod Classic hidden in the glove compartment in my 2011. No wires running all over and out of sight. I wonder if Toyota eliminated that connection to save a little money at user inconvenience.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get 2 devices to work?
I know, pitch the iPod.
