Summer Tires

Hello fellow 4runners!

I just took my dealer all seasons off my 5th gen to put the winter tires on.

Question: I’m disposing of the dealer tires. I need a recommendation on a great summer tire. Braking and hydroplaning are of concern in the summer. Not winter driving, I got that covered. Hopefully.

The paw man

Get yourself some all terrain tires and go see what your 4Runner can do off road.

I will be getting Wrangler Duratracs at some point. They appear to be very popular for working trucks and do well all around. They are more of an AT tire and will do well in the summer as well as snow for me.

Continental TerrainContact A/T. Can't say enough good things about wet performance.

If you already have snow tires then the Michelin defender is it the best non all terrain tire
If one tire is all you need NOTHING beats the Falken wildpeaks

Are Falken Wildpeaks like Funky Pup subwoofers of the car audio side of life?

If you're located in RI, I honestly think you're wasting your money on having dedicated snow tires.

Falken Wildpeak AT3W
Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S

And the other tires that others have mentioned.

All will be more than capable in winter, and be able to handle rain in the summer very well.

Agree that in RI, dedicated winters might be overkill (unless you're going skiing in VT) but since ya got 'em, use 'em.

I have read the Wildpeaks hydroplane easily at higher miles.

Have personally had the Michelins, they ARE very long lasting, and work well for everything except deeper mud and extreme offroad.

If Michelins are too pricey, by all accounts the Cooper AT3 4S and Continental TerrainContact are both great in the wet. The Coopers are my next set.

I have Michelin Defenders on both my 4Runner and Land Cruiser. Load range E on both. They do surprisingly well off road. I used to buy all-terrains but now I’m just using these. Super quiet on the highway, hard to beat in the rain and even light snow.
