I guess you could do that.

But then you wouldn't have that cute Pro sticker on the side of your rig. Don't forget that roof basket.

Come on, it's not a sticker, it's an emblem. It's on the back too, ya know.
The roof basket is whatever. The heritage grill is a nice touch. Anything that's there can be done or done better through the aftermarket, but I've played that game. I'll play again, but not until my toddler is a little older. She's my priority, not garage therapy.

I was taking a few secluded roundabouts last weeks and as the weight shifted in the turns (~30mph) my rear suspension sounded really angry with its situation.

I'm not sure what South Dakota's law states, but here in Ohio I've eclipsed the Lemon Law threshold. Since during my last visit I was told directly that Toyota is done trying to fix the problem, I may be turning my truck in for a full refund. The only thing I'll be out is what I've spent on mods, unless I can find another '19 4R. Not interested in TSS on this platform. If I want that, I'll move back into a German vehicle.
Itís MO handling my rig now or I should say no handling it lol. Iím actually going tomorrow to get a refund on the extended warranty. Figure maybe making them lose money may make them do something and if itís not going to get honored why pay them for it.
I only wanted to lemon it to go back to a Jeep since Iím pissed about this and the way they are handling it but since I canít do that ya Iím probably going to pull and replace the suspension and then when it still does it make them fix it. But Iím making them write a contract for it as I asked them if I did replace it and it still does it what then. Their reply was we take it off and put the fox back on and you get a refund then we fix it. If they will put that in writing Iím going that way

*Knock on wood*

I've had my 2020 for a little over a week and have put about 500 miles on it. Yeah, that went fast. Lots to get done, family in town, Jacksonville is enormous.

So far, I haven't run into any suspension issues or knocks. Temperature has been as high as 80 and as low as the low 40s. That's probably not cold enough to induce the problems, but I'm hoping that I can avoid it.

It would be really nice to just get a straight answer as to what exactly the problem is. Are the shocks just defective (manufacturing defect)? Are they ill-designed? Is there an issue with the connections or something?

Right now it seems as though there's no real consensus as to what exactly is going on with them

My 2020 AG just turned 2000 miles on it. No noises or clunking so far. Now on my 17 Pro there were issues with the rear shock on the driver side I had the top part was just catching the inside wheel well and you could here the metal noise when you would hit a bump. Toyota dealers grinder just a small piece away and no more noise.

Escalated my claim through Toyota. They verified that it has gone through all appropriate channels so far, ending with the regional field service tech. The buy-back case has been initiated. I'll know more within the next 30-45 days.

Is it that loud? I hear a slight clunking when going slow in the cold.. but nothing that I would consider extreme enough to go to that length.
Perhaps post a video?

Straight from the Ohio Revised Code:

Ohio Rev. Code Ann. Sec. 1345.71

(E) ďNonconformityĒ means any defect or condition which substantially impairs the use, value, or safety of a motor vehicle and does not conform to the express warranty of the manufacturer or distributor.

My 2019 TRD Pro makes a constant clunking sound from the front at low speeds under the right circumstances and outside temperature, but I don't feel it impairs the value or safety of the vehicle. Do you feel yours does? Perhaps yours is much worse than mine. I'm interested in seeing how this plays out.

Good luck... be prepared... depending on the state laws (I live in SC), you may lose some money through the buyback.

Toyota bought back my '18 ORP due to steering wheel shake that could not be fixed and I lost close to 3k plus 4 months of insane stress. I only had my '18 for a total of 8 months and 9k miles (~1,000 of which they were test driving it after trying to fix it).

Toyota did as much as they could to help me out. They will offer you extra money back if you purchase another Toyota with your buyback check.

This is how I ended up with my '19 Pro, which also has this "clunk", but I'm not bothered by it.

If you have more questions on the process you can DM me and I'll try to answer as best I can.

Again, good luck!

So mine isnít a clunk and doesnít just occur at low speeds, which is why itís so irritating. To me it sounds more like bushings or similar binding. Itís most prevalent at low speeds, in reverse, and almost at full lock. It comes from the passenger rear.

Iím in Southeast Asia at the moment, so a video is not possible for at least a few weeks. Then, Iíll need to figure out how to get my GoPro setup to capture the noise.

Yeah, my sister is an attorney in Ohio so Iím up to speed on the code. Makes the process easier (cheaper) for me as well. Itís nice to have legal support.
I can assure you that if I test drove mine in its current state, I would be offering significantly less with the intent of replacing suspension components upon acquisition. I am too. I just want the damn thing fixed. I really like this truck, but I have zero confidence in the suspension in its current state.
The regional field service tech came and slapped a set of ďshock earsĒ on the shock bodies and said, ďeverything is normalĒ. Then he followed that with itís a known issue, so which is it? I donít think mine is a shock problem. Toyota has thrown in the towel, leaving me with the choice to spend my own time and money trying to fix it or looking into a buy back.

Thank you.

I recall your saga with Toyota. I also drove a Ď20 Pro and heard the ďclunkĒ. My opinion it was just a normal internal bypass shock ďclickĒ, maybe a little more audible. I hear that on mine too. If that were the noise, my truck would have never gone back to the dealer.

I took mine to Toyota last Monday with this issue. They had another brand new TRD PRO in stock with 3 mi on the clock, they let me drive it, it had the same clunk. Mine is 10/2019 production date, the one they had in stock is 12/2019. In my opinion it is normal considering we got high performance suspension. The condition was documented.

Where did you take it, if you don't mind me asking?

Mine did not do this when it was new, but started in January and it is temperature-dependent for sure (almost imperceptible when it is > 40 degrees outside, but REALLY annoying and clunky/poppy when coming to a stop when it's ~15 degrees outside). We had some pretty cold days back in November and December too and it wasn't doing it back then, so that's why I'm not convinced that this is "normal" or "working as designed"...
