x2. I’m very pleased with the ride characteristics. Now for Eibach to finish the spring redesign.

Just installed the Fox TRD Pro Shocks on my 2021 TRD OR. The kit is PTR61-89210. The shocks are identical to those on the 2021 TRD Pro. Sadly, the driver’s side rear is making the noise / clunk which is very noticeable below 50F. This was not an inexpensive upgrade. I’m with a few others who are thinking it might be the lower shock bushing rather than the internals. It sounds and feels like a loose shock to me.

The model of shock that you bought isnt the one that had issues clunking.. my guess is its something else. (If you did in fact buy the 2021 version.. I didnt cross check the part numbers)

My 2020 clunks occasionally when cold. When the fluid warms up it goes away.

The whole issue with the 19 and 20 fox shocks was in the FRONT shocks. here is a link to the TSB
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...81779-9999.pdf
I have verified this TSB with my dealer so I know its legit. The part numbers listed on the TSB differ from your "kit" as they are likely individual parts and not a "kit".

IF you having issues with the rear, then it may be an installation issue. (not to say they could have a defect).

According to my dealer parts counter, the REAR shocks on a 20 and 21 are the same part number. So I think only the fronts were changed.

With all the horror stories about the dealerships I actually have a positive one recently. About a couple weeks ago while I was changing my oil I noticed that my driver side axle boot was leaking grease. Took it in and the mechanic was able to replace the entire axle under warranty, not just the boot itself.

Then when I went back to pick it up the truck he brought up this TSB and told me to bring the truck back before the warranty expires so he can swap them out for me too. No explaining and no BS with getting this TSB completed, I think I found a great tech and dealership.

Only reason why I'm holding off at the moment is I already have the Eibach springs on the original set and waiting for the new ones to be made so I can get it done at the same time.

Do these shocks have solid lower mounts -- spherical bearings -- or rubber? If rubber, than it's not as likely that it will make the noise. Make sure you recheck torque.

Performance shocks tend to do that. Kind of a trade off one makes to gain that performance; the NVH has to increase most of the time. I don't have the OEM Fox shocks, but do have aftermarket units that also get clunky when cold. It's especially noticeable when it's below zero F. Took me some time to get used to that, for sure.

For sure. All my performance cars with aftermarket suspension were noisy when cold. Certainly a trade off.

I learned about this TSB recently and decided to take my 2020 TRDP to the dealer (DARCARS Silver Spring Toyota, MD). I gave them a copy of the bulletin.

They kept the car for a day and were unable to reproduce the issue as the weather has been warming up. They told me to “bring it in next winter” to have it looked at then.

I’m going to try calling another dealer or maybe reaching out to a regional manager if I can find the contact info as this noise is very evident on my 4Runner when the weather is cold.

This was basically my situation a year ago with my 2019.

Took it back this year in February during one of the coldest weeks of the year and they called me later the same day to tell me they were ordering new shocks but that they were backordered so it may take awhile.

About 3 weeks later they finally came in and were replaced. It really hasn't been cold enough to fully test things and *know* that they problem is fixed but so far so good, and the truck's front end also feels a bit better damped (I don't really think it's my imagination but I'm not discounting the possibility).

TRD Pro Fox Shock Clunk

Here's a pic I found of the 19/20 shock vs the redesigned "21" shock. After I had mine done, I crawled underneath to make sure they replaced them with the proper updated shock.

I think I'm having the clunk. Happens only at slow speeds and I mostly notice in my parking garage. I love my 4R, but I know at the moment there is no way a dealer with be able to replicate it unless they drive in my parking garage. I don't know if I have the energy to deal with it. I might just sell the 4R and take advantage of all the crazy prices and the amount of equity I have in it.

All depends on your dealership. Mine only did it in the cold weather so it'll be a tough time of year to replicate it. Print up the TSB and take it with you to the dealership. My dealership didn't give me any problems and agreed to do the swap right away.

2021 trd pro clunk

Hello I don’t post here much but I have the same issue with a clunk. I have a 2021 TRD PRO with 3000 miles on it. I started noticing a clunking sound which you can slightly feel on the floor board when driving over small bumps or uneven pavement. I was reading that this seems to be an ongoing issue. I had a 2017 TRD OFF-ROAD AND A 2021 venture edition before going for the PRO. Neither had any clunks. Kind of bummed on this. What is the final answer if there is one ? Thanks
