Also, why not wait longer to get it repaired so you get fresh shocks before the warranty is up?

Main reason for me is I want to do the eibach lift once they confirm what works for the new shocks. Its really only there a few months out of the year so it makes timing for warranty work a little tricky, and during the really cold months its pretty annoying on such an expensive vehicle. The shock performance has been great but being that its a known issue with a fix almost makes it more apparent and all the more annoying in my mind.

Right now I’m dealing with a bent in RCI skid hitting my exhaust. Once I fix that I’ll listen to the shocks.

Bummer that the current Eibach pro springs will become obsolete.

Canadian copie of the TSB

Hi

Does anyone have a .pdf copie to download, of the Canadian Toyota Service Bulletin T-TCI 5384, For the TRD Pro shock Clunk. Can't seem to find it online.

I'm wondering if the wording of the TSB between the US version and CDN are the same.

Thank You

Didzer

Thank You Mark.

much appreciated.

my appointment at the dealers is February 1st. We are in lock-down in QC, it takes forever to get an appointment.

So....I brought my 4Runner in this morning. The service advisor said he had never heard of the issue and didn’t know about the TSB. I brought a printed copy of the TSB along with me and gave it to him. He said I could do a ride along with the tech. I was skeptical at this point, and preparing my comeback for when they try to tell me that they didn’t hear any noise and there’s nothing they can do. I sat there for about an hour. The service advisor came over to me and told me I was all set, the tech heard the noise and they are going to order the parts and replace both front shocks with the retuned 2021s. I’m taking it in next Thursday.

I'm glad your experience was better than mine. I also requested a drive along with the tech. however, due to covid they said it's not possible. I know I keep saying it but I just wish they would have done both at the same time. How does it make sense that only one shock is the problem, when the Bulletin states replace both? To me it doesn't make sense. I do plan on making a stink once they realize the other one needs to be replaced as well.

Took my 4Runner in today to get the shocks replaced. Dropped it off, got a loaner, got home, phone rings, it’s the dealership. They did receive replacement shocks. Unfortunately, Toyota sent the 2019-20 Fox shocks, and not the revised 2021 model as per the TSB. Back to the dealership to pick up my 4Runner. Kinda wasted a whole morning as it’s a 40 mile round trip to the dealer for me. Not sure if they ordered the wrong parts or Toyota mistakenly sent the old setup. Anyway, they are reordering and will call me when they come in and confirm they are the revised setup.

On a side note...they gave me a 2021 Tacoma as a loaner. Was just an SR5 but I thought the V6 engine/auto transmission combo was not that bad. I know a lot of people complain about it but it felt peppier than the 4Runner(minus my sprint booster).

Had my appointment at the dealers this morning, mentioned the clunk sound from my shocks, showed them the TSB.

That bothered them a bit, they said it's a US TSB. I smiled and said no, that's the Canadian TSB but I could show them the US one if they wanted.

They did a test drive it was -18C/0F out this morning, and my shocks where clunking. So they ordered the new parts, they will be installed next Monday.

Besides the grumbling from the service tech. at the beginning everything went pretty smoothly.

My advisor said the same thing initially. My guess is that Canadian TSBs arent publically posted, while the US versions are.

I got the picture above from a friend who worked at a dealer.

So....brought the 4Runner in to get diagnosed and brought it back a week later to get the new shocks installed only to get a call back saying they received the wrong shocks (pre 2021 fox shocks). Dealership reordered and told me they’d be in the following week but they wanted to wait to make an appointment until they were sure they received the right shocks. Never heard back so I called and am now told that the 2021 Fox shocks are on back order. Not sure when they will be available. Anyone else hearing this?

So far I have been lucky no clunking. I also added the new Eibach springs to lift it higher. Been great with the 285’s. Rides and handles great.

A similar thing happened to me. I called my dealership, after not hearing back from them, they said the one shock they were going to replace is already in; however, the other side is now on back order. I said other side? that's weird because you had originally told me only one was getting replaced and only one was at fault. O.K, so i'm guessing Toyota must have asked them why only one was being replaced when both are the issue as per the TSB. The second shock is on back order now.

I told the tech (who likely doesn't care) that this all might have been avoided if they just followed the TSB which I supplied to them in the first place. They actually pushed back when I originally told them why they aren't following the TSB which clearly states both should be replaced. How did it make sense for only one to be at fault when they are likely manufactured/assembled together?

Anyway, I guess I should be thankful I don't have to fight with them to replace the other side. I was preparing for a long drawn out process of fighting to get the other side replaced.
