5 TPMS sensors?
Searched and can't find any info- can 2019 TRD ORP accept 5 TPMS sensors?
Want to put TPMS in my spare since I will be switching it from the steel rim to the same wheel as the other 4.
I like to rotate 5 tires instead of a $200+ tire aging out under the back. Might as well get some miles from it.
Our 2011 FJC handles 5 sensors- hoping the 4R will too.
Thanks!

My 2020 4runner TRD Off Road doesn't. At least when I check the instrument cluster, it only shows 4.

2019 MY all trims are 4 TPMS, 4 slots for TPMS in the ECU.
The exception may be the LE trim... That may have 5, but my gut says no.
Found out when I bought a matching TRDP wheel for the spare and wanted TPMS in it for a 5 wheel rotate... It now has a nice TRDP wheel with brand new matching Nitto Terra Grappler... and rubber stem (no TPMS).

Leave it to Toyota to go backwards from 2011...
Anyone have experience with the lower cost TPMS tools so when I rotate tires I could program the spare in while one goes back as a spare with it's ID removed?

i'm sure my limited has 5 tpms. how about the non-limited guys. when you put on your spare, do you get a tpms light on the dash?

My 2014 Limited only has 4. The 5th field in the ECU is there, but it is disabled and I cannot add a 5th sensor.

When I got my snows put on recently ( I bought another set of OEM rims new without sensors ) they asked me what I wanted to do for sensors ( Toyota, their aftermarket units for Toyota / Lexus, or none of course ). The benefit of the OEM ones apparently, they could clone them - so no need to drop back in there each R&R period for programming.
The drawback - price. I went with their aftermarket ones, no charge for them to point the Autel reader at each wheel, pick up the sensor codes and reset the system via OBD port at each change, took the guy about 3 mins. Might upgrade my Autel Reader to one of those in future.
Anyway - from my understanding as long as you install a 5th new OEM sensor into the spare it can be cloned to the existing OEM units already on there ?

But how does the ECU know which to read if 2 sensors have the same code?
I know on Ford Transits the sensors only transmit if the wheel is rolling.
But apparently Toyotas must transmit all the time?
I say that because when we air down on our FJC we get a TPMS light from the spare because it's pressure doesn't match what the other 4 tires are reading. If we also air down the spare then no light.

My 2019 TRD ORP has a sensor in the spare.
I bought an Autel MaxiTPMS TS508 to reprogram my ECU when I swapped in the new winter tires and wheels. When I told the TS508 I had a 2010-2019 4Runner it had me activate and read all 5 sensors, then plug it into the OBD II port and flash the data into the ECU.
Spare tires are not required to have a TPMS sensor according to the original 2005 NHTSA TPMS legislation.

Good question, never thought to ask them that but I presume this doesn't matter, if the sensors are cloned the ECU just picks up their data as normal. If both sensors are transmitting different pressures that's typical I guess as each sensor is not always transmitting the same data every few mins while rolling down the road either - its a threshold they must cross in low pressure reading.
Speaking of threshold - I would have thought I'd have a light go off immediately once I first put the other set of rims / snow tires on before getting those new sensors programmed but it took a full day and about 50 kilometers before the light came on. Truck was nowhere near the OEM sensors either. Almost like it had to complete a drive cycle before it decided all 4 sensors were gone LoL.
That doesn't seem very intuitive they may have well been flat. Maybe the vehicle was picking up the new sensors already and deciding what to do with that signal who knows, but they had to be programmed into the system obviously and the OEM's deleted. Who knows.

Did your 2019 TRD ORP come with a sensor in the spare or was it added?
So you are saying all 5 sensors can be programmed in and they work? If so that is great news!
I have to go to Discount Tire to get my spare tire swapped off the steel rim onto the matching aluminum wheel I bought. I suppose they don't have the actual Toyota sensors but use an aftermarket. If it does matter then I'll pick up a Toyota branded sensor.

I have a 2018 ORP. I also have an aftermarket head unit and I'm 90% sure that in the OBD Menu it shows the PSI of the spare in the menu system, but it doesn't show in the "front end" PSI screen with the picture of the vehicle. I'm also fairly positive the last rotation they did a 5 tire rotation and I was able to re-program each tire to the specific location without issue.
EDIT: Checked this morning. My Kenwood head unit does indeed have a menu line in the settings page from the tire pressure widget, however it only shows the temperature of the spare (it was different temp than the 4 spinning), not the PSI, it was just a "-" where it should have been.
