2016 Trail Premium Radio/Navi Display Problems

Hi folks, I have a 2016 Trail Premium, 53,000 miles, bought it new in January of 2016. Never had a problem with this truck, but suddenly out of nowhere my center dash Entune display is constantly shutting off and turning back on. It did it once a few weeks ago and I thought it was just a glitch but for the last 3 days now it has shut off and turned back on non stop.

Needless to say, this is pretty annoying (no radio, no map, etc). I called my local Toyota dealer and then told me I might need a software update ($140 to upload software? Ridiculous!) or a whole new head unit to the tune of $2000-$3000!

Anyone out there have this problem and no if there is a fix or if I am screwed?

There's no way I am playing $3000 for a new head unit but if anyone out there has had success with the software update to fix this problem, this I might consider (even though I think $140 is robbery to update firmware or whatever they do). I have the Techstream software and cable so I could update it myself. If anyone knows where to download the firmware update/software upgrade, lmk!

Thanks!

Same issue on a 2014

I'm eager to resolve the same issue on my 2014 with 92K miles.

I had a similar issue and it turned out to be a loose connection to the battery terminal, check there first. FYI- you can update the Entune software yourself, I tried that as a fix when I was troubleshooting.

Alternative (FREE) solution

After digging around on here... it seems that our iPhone bluetooth connection has been the creator of havoc here. There is a step-by-step free solution to it for many.

Where is the solution? I have been digging around too, and did a little testing.

It's pretty weird. Ever since I have owned the 4Runner, I have had my 160GB iPod Classic connected to the USB port, and my iPhone connected as well. Out of the blue this problem started, and maybe it coincides with an IOS update, but anyway, the problem halfway goes away if I turn my iPhone off when in the truck. However, even though the rebooting stops, now my iPod Classic is not working. It shows that it is connected, but when I select it as a source, I get an error that says

"There are no songs available for playback. Please add compatible files to your iPod."

Weird. I am going to do some more testing today, and I think I will try to update the software to the latest version via one of the eBay mini-SD cards.

So, have any of you fixed this issue for certain? And if so, what is the fix?

Thanks!

Are you talking about the main battery connection under the hood? Or are you talking about the power connection to the head unit behind the dash?

Thanks.
