Good point, it's not like Cal Fire does shit while PG&E sets half the state on fire every fall.

Love my 4R as I do my German car as well as my mostly Mexican made American Pickup.
That said, if it’s not a repo / confiscated / whatever then taxpayer dollars should be spent on US vehicles.

I hate to spend my money out of our own economy but I hate it even more to just burn it

If the VIN is correct, it is a 2014. No info has been added to the CARFAX since it was titled on 11/06/2014 in San Luis Obispo, CA. Bought new from Wondries Toyota.

The Washoe Tribal District have an early 5th gen silver Trail in their motor pool.
They've had it since at least 2012.
You can usually see it going South on 395 out of Gardnerville, NV.

Yeah, I appreciate your sentiment. But what is an American vehicle anyway? And how much of the original cost goes overseas and how much stays circulating in the US in local dealerships, repair, mods, parts, labor, etc?
I’d like to buy American-made cellphones, computers, TVs, and other electronics, but I can’t. Welcome to the world wide economy.

It’s kind of interesting; city planning.
I found a 5 year SLO Capital Improvement Plan document that included the planned purchases of fleet vehicles for police, fire, and other departments. From what I can tell they planned on buying three or four SUVs for the fire dept. between 2015-2017 and budgeted $99K.
http://www.slocity.org/Home/ShowDocument?id=7563
Then there was a supplemental document where they increased the fire vehicle budget to $115K.
http://www.slocity.org/Home/ShowDocument?id=11266
I’m sure the city bureaucracy had some criteria for justification before approval of any purchases. Since the OP lives in SLO, here’s your homework assignment:
Get in touch with your city leaders and provide us with more information on this!
(Edit: Any finance nerds can go to these docs and search for “SUV”)

Sentiment? Once I have spoken it becomes a scientific fact.

Christ, the first reasonable post in the first two pages. As someone who used to work on ca govt fleet, this is exactly how this works.
no, they dont have firemen just walking into a toyota dealership and picking out a 4runner. as much as the state wastes on everything else, they are fairly stringent when it comes to fleet pricing.

Even though most Toyota dealerships have shitty or nonexistent fleet departments (even in CA) and their "fleet discounts" are pretty pissant since they're usually the last company people think of when they think government contract.
This isn't Ford selling several thousand Explorers to CHP for half the price.
