Multi Terrain Selector Knob symbol change??

So I was staring at my Multi Terrain Selector Knob yesterday when I noticed that the symbol for the "sand" setting had changed (or at least seemed to have changed) to a "cactus". A bit of research (my last 4R was a 2012 Trail) confirmed that the older vehicles had a camel symbol for the "sand" setting. I don't know when the symbol change took place but I found images on line showing the camel in use until at least 2014.

Any idea why this changed? Maybe someone got upset? This would be a fun question to send off to Toyota in a letter...

You could be right, could be some political correctness nonsense.

just you wait, someone will interpret the cactus as a phallus symbol and it will change again

Well, my '19 ORP has a camel. A bactrian camel to be more precise. Nary a cactus in sight.

I have had my Trail for 7 years and used M/T a lot yesterday. Never looked at the symbols, just the center stack guide thing. Guess I will go have a look now.

Hmmm I think the 2020s now just reference reducing wheel spin or something on those lines with Sand being the least reduction and rock is now most reduction.

Well to be fair, most 4Runners are sold in the US where we are more likely to see a cactus in the sand than a camel... ;)

Funny mine shows a picture of John Stamos is almost every mode but rock. Also, Epstein didn't kill himself.

Not so sure of that...

...some of us old timers remember the old Camel cigarette ads from the '70s - '80s. Remember Joe the camel and the sandy background....or the scene on the carton? I had some friends who smoked which is why I know...

This is a serious issue which warrants investigation!!
