What's wrong with modding the pro? Already have my SR5 badges, stock struts, orp silver valances, even doing the 8" to 6" radio swap. I can't wait!

I was originally going to get a 19 Pro as I just wanted to get a turn-key adventure vehicle. Didn't plan on modding anything back then....Well that changed quickly. Glad I went with the ORP lol.

OP, you asked us to help you decide which vehicle is best for you so I ask the following:
  • What is the most important aspect of your purchase? This includes everything from the financial aspect to the vehicle itself.
  • How long do you intend to keep the vehicle? If only short term (5 years or less), maybe a Pro is the way to go for that resale value everyone talks about.
  • How do you intend to use the vehicle? If you plan on regularly off-roading, would you be okay with the scratches and dings that could come with such adventures?
  • Do you intend on modifying the Pro's suspension before the end of its service life? If so, then it seems like a waste of money. Although, I suppose you could slightly offset the cost by selling the Pro units.
  • You stated you would modify the OR with suspension, wheels, etc. What level of suspension modification? Are we talking a cheap as can be route to achieve a look or a $5k King Off-Road system? The same question applies to the wheels and other mods.

I wanted a Pro because of the color options. I really like the Inferno, Cavalier Blue, and Cement options. It just wasn't in my budget though. I continued to drool over the Pro after I bought my SR5. A short time later I realized that having one of those colors was not going to make my driving experience any better. That's just me though.

The financial aspect is not top of the list because either way i will be spending around the same amount (i think)

My main concerns are having a really solid vehicle for winters...having something reliable and solid...with the OCCASIONAL off road adventure...i do not need an extreme off road setup, but i would like something a bit more capable than a stock ORP i would say. I do a lot of highway driving as well. Do i like the AG? Yes. Is it an absolute must? No. I am just a little unsure about modding in general just because i have not had a lot of experience with it...thats not to say i wouldnt be better off getting ORP and modding to my liking, but i just do not really know.
EDIT - as far as how long i will drive it? it could be 10 years, it could be 2 years...i guess that all depends on how much i enjoy it and how much or how little my needs change as my family grows...so i do not have a great feeling for this at the moment

Nothing. I’m saying to get the Pro then mod it. He’s over thinking it. Now unless it’s white you want them get the off-road premium with kdss.

From what I can tell, Pros in the unique color command an impressive resale value but that's only relevant if you plan to sell it. Off Road Premiums appeal to a similar market though and their resale seems to be pretty decent as well compared to Limiteds and SR5 at least from my amateur unofficial research. 8K in upgrades to a ORP with KDSS sounds like a much better truck than a stock TRD Pro, and if color is your concern, you can wrap a TRD ORP for what? 3K? KDSS makes this a difficult decision as well because as people have said, you can make a ORP into a Pro but you can never make a Pro into a ORP with KDSS.

based on 3rd and 4th gens, depreciation will still be good even when the 6th gen comes out

and if the 6th gen is less rugged then 5th gen pricing will go crazy

I read this all over the forums so decided to run kbb on an 18 pro, 24k miles with standard options, excellent conditions. The blue came back 100 bucks more than the white. I know this is dependant on how many are on the market in our own area so could vary depending how many are on the lots.. screenshot does not show blue or white but blue is the 100 more

Yeah I guess it’s not that they’re necessarily worth more is that they’re going to sell quicker at that higher asking price I would think. But I’m not so sure that the blue one is that much in demand go try to find a cement pro or inferno red. I had to expand up the nationwide to find one and they were still in the low 40s.

The only functionial off road difference between the Pro and OR is the suspension. My understanding is the Pro's suspension provides a smoother ride at higher speeds while off road and no advantage while crawling around. So unless you are going to drive at higher speeds off pavement, the Pro doesn't offer an advantage.

The only thing to be worried about regarding modifying the vehicle is catching the bug hahaha. I think it's worse if you like to tinker.

Does insurance cost more for a Pro? I wouldn't think so, but it's worth asking your insurance provider.

OR: Cheaper out the door, cheaper loan?, best bang for the buck, mods don't yield ROI, possible warranty hassles?.

Pro: Drive and enjoy as is, Army Green!, cost more (out the door and loan), not as capable as a modded OR.

You can't go wrong with either trim level. Buying based on future resale value is risky as someone else mentioned. And, as another member stated, don't expect to recoupe any money spent on modifications which isn't a big deal if you don't go off the deep end. Shocks, rear spring spacers, tires, clone Pro grill, and valences, then call it quits. If the financial aspect is your highest priority, get the OR. A stock OR can go everywhere a Pro can and you will save money on the vehicle price and loan cost if you finance. I hope that helps with your decision.

All I know is that 3 months ago, a Nashville dealer had a 2017 Cement Pro with 11,000 miles on it and they got asking price for it, which was 46k. Thats a 3 model year old Pro for only a few thousand cheaper than it was new.

I offered 44k and he told me no thanks, that they felt strongly that they would get asking price. 2 days later he called to tell me it sold and wanted to put me in a 2020 AG for $6900 over sticker.

Thats pretty damn impressive if you ask me. Not sure what a Cement Pro cost in 2017, but for it to only drop 3-5k in 3 model years in awesome. Wish they had taken my 44k as that was my first and favorite color.

Back in 2017 when I turned down cement grey in July msrp was a little over 43,000 and I bought my white Pro in Sept for the same amount give or take a couple of dollars. I traded my 17 in with 12,300 miles on it for my AG and got almost what I paid for it. So with my Pro I owned it so did not need much money out of pocket. It would have cost me a lot more if I had the off road 4runner comparing numbers. I would have not traded up for 2020 if it was not for the upgrades.

TRDP/Cement msrp was 43k in 2017.
