I had a similar choice when I went shopping this fall for another 4Runner. As this was my 3rd I’m pretty knowledgeable with the platform and having spent a great deal of time on these forums I was pretty familiar with the differences between the Pro and OR.

I agree with many of the previous poster that if you want to keep it stock and/or have to have one of the limited colors: Pro.

I ended up with a OPR for about $12k less than a Pro. I cant stand leaving vehicles stock and with the money saved going with the ORP, I was able to purchase a top-of-the-line lift, full lighting (HID/LED/BD Fogs), hybrid bumper, power running boards, wheels/tires, and other misc parts. All in I’ll have a far superior total package (IMO) than a Pro, it will be more unique and outfitted for me for less.

If your plan is to upgrade parts, go with the ORP and have fun making it your own.

As for KDSS, I’ve personally never liked it and didn’t want the added headache of potential failure nor compatibility with aftermarket suspension components.

Are the newer KDSS units any different?

Literally the only thing keeping me from an ORP instead of a Pro are the auto headlights. Seems silly, but they are an absolute must for me. Now I just need to find the right deal.

Do the TRD Pros have a wide stance/track (front and rear) than the ORPs?

From my research, they do not; however, many of the factory TRD Pros I see appear to have the wheels sticking out further than TRD Pro wheels on an ORP.

I was in the same position as the OP, and even had my sights set on a particular ORP but in the end bought a Pro...and guess what, it's not even army green because I'm not tacticool enough for a shiny olive truck.

To me, I wanted something cool and capable that I didn't have to chop up. I've had enough hot rods in my youth to know I didn't want to be THAT into it anymore. Most mods I have made, or even plan to make revolve around making it a better camera platform as I shoot real estate and work largely out of my vehicle. The last thing I plan to do is beat up a $50k truck by sliding it all over pointy rocks. I can go buy a $10k truck for that.

Could I have accomplished a capable camera platform with a lesser trimmed 4runner than the Pro? Sure. But the Pro is cooler as it rolls off the showroom floor, so that was my play.

The pro wheels have a +7 offset vs the +15 the orp has

In the Bay Area-NorCal, There was a cement Pro with I think 16K miles listed for sale on CL a few months back that was bone stock but with 5% window tint, asking price was $46.5

I think it sold in a couple days as I searched for it.

Appreciate the info, but I was referring to the same wheels (TRD Pros) on both a Pro and an ORP (like a Venture that cones factory w/ them). When the same wheel is on both, most of the Pros I’ve seen appear to have a wider track/stance, and it doesn’t appear to just be the Nitto TGs.

Not sure if anything has been mentioned about the clearance gains and ride quality of mods over long term. I wheeled in a pro and then bought and built the trd off road premium with 3 inch fox factory race series reservoirs. The ride quality is markedly better with the trd off road I modded. it’s not even about the chunky stuff off road it’s the washboards, little ledges and stuff most people see 95 percent of the time on trail. Also , as an enthusiast we’re naturally in awe of a beautiful truck and love the mods and tinkering. Can you comfortably drive past a sexy beast 4 runner modded well with the pro and not want to mod it. The desire to lift it will be pretty strong.

Personally part of me kind of wonders why pay 8 grand for badges and pretty standard fair fox shocks. The pro doesn’t have fox top tier equipment.

I literally bought my 2019 off lot, saved 8 grand then drove it 5 miles and spent that 8 grand building the truck I want with far better quality.

Good to know, my cement has 13k miles and I might sell sometime soon.

definitely an optical illusion you're seeing. all the parts and part numbers on the two cars are the same for any components that would affect this.
