2020 AG Pro vs 2020 ORP w/KDSS

Hey guys. Before you say here we go again, just want to start by saying i have read every thread multiple times about Pro vs ORP, yet still somehow i cannot decide what is best for me. Either way i think i will be happy, but i am just looking for a couple of opinions or maybe suggestions..maybe i am not considering all angles.
It is either between an AG pro for approx 50k versus an ORP w/KDSS for approx 42k. Clearly there is a price difference, but i will not be riding my ORP stock. I would end up modding it a fair amount. I would have a shop do it, therefore i am trying to figure out how much i would spend to do lift, wheels, tires, etc...AND how much time (time is $) would it take..all of these things i am thinking about.
The only part of the Pro i am unsure about is the exhaust note. I dont know whether i like it or if i hate it...and i have driven it!! just not long enough i guess. Would this be a deciding factor at all? sure i guess i could do something to change that if i ended up not liking it, but im not sure what is involved.

Also, i live in the northeast - i have been reading on some threads that KDSS doesnt do as well with winter salt? is this totally false?

ANY thoughts?! I promise i have done many searches over the last several months!!

You are thinking too much into it. The only reason to go with Pro is if the color is a must have - to me AG is not a must have color. Otherwise, save the 8 grand and do mods on an ORP w KDSS.

You typically won't re-coup any $ you invest in mods. Some toyota dealers have been known to frown, when it comes to warranty repairs on modded vehicles, especially if the repair is directly related to the after-market part/install. Moot points if you plan to hold the vehicle for a long time or spin your own wrenches.

This is totally false. I live in a Salt Lake City. My 4runner practically lives in a salt bath for 4 months a year. KDSS has shown no issues at all. Everything that would be prone to rust is either aluminum or stainless.

However - a lot of the other hardware is very prone to rust issues. Particularly all the smaller 6 and 8mm hardware that holds the skid plates on. Some of mine have literally rusted so bad that the threads fell off the bolts. It's inexplicable. Other hardware looks like new. I can't explain it other than some supplier provided non-spec bolts. My frame still looks good with only very minor surface rust. KDSS system components look great. I would not worry about the KDSS system any more than any other component for rust.

I would spend more time test driving both and choose what you like and what you think you'll be happiest with. They're both very similar.

right...so lets say i spent 50k on the pro and rode it stock...went to resell in 3 years (just saying)...i can prob sell it for close to that....if i buy an ORP and spend 42 but then another 8 in mods to spend the same 50...what happens at the end of those 3 years as far as resale

the people who buy ORP and mod it..are they REALLY spending less?

Comparing an TRDORP with KDSS is not the same comparison as a TRD Pro. Pro doesn't have KDSS, so a better comparison is a Pro vs. TRDORP without KDSS. The only thing the Pro has over the TRDOR premium without KDSS is the FOX shocks (with a lift that will be coming off anyway so worthless unless you keep it stock) and the hideous rack that's on the Pro (that is if you get the TRD Wheels and tires that is now an option on the TRDORP). So color aside, go with the TRDORP w/o KDSS unless you want the better handling in town and some better articulation off road then get an TRDORP with KDSS. Also, make sure you don't get the running boards or the predator steps (get after market sliders) and you probably won't want the crossbars either (get after market cross bars or full rack). You may want the sliding rear cargo tray though, I love mine. Don't bother with the sliding tray mat though, it sucks.

And regarding the wheels, I can't remember the package name but the option comes with the TRD Pro wheels, tires, and predator step bars. Bars ok because they are steel but they have the steps that sticks down that defeats the purpose of sliders.

Depends, if you mod the TRD Pro then the same applies. But I think he wants a lift so either vehicle there will be mods that can't be re-couped. I think most people that mod a 4Runner plan on keeping it a long time so re-sale would not be an issue.

If your modding go OR. No mods gopro (resale).

Personally I see the pro as a 10K paint job/suspension combo (which is absurdly overpriced) and nothing more.

You don't sell it with mods. Also you are personalizing it vs driving stock but Pro Bro owners mod anyway. They rip out the suspension and put something else.

Since you are modding I'm voting TRD OR.

There are a few reasons why the pro resale value is higher and one of them is color demand. Another is pro msrp have skyrocketed from 42k to 51k in a matter of 5 years. So the resale is inflated due to the cost of a new. I dont think i would pay 51k for a pro vs what I paid in 2017. I would much rather jump to a 2020 lexus gx460 because with some negotiating you can get about 15% off msrp which makes it close to pro price with more power and luxury features.

I can see the appeal of having these colors (they are unique and look cool) but I put zero dollar value in it, it's just paint. If you just wanted a turn-key truck, and had no plans of modifying it, then the Pro is a nice option. The real value of the Pro comes from being content with it and leaving it alone because its wearing really nice suspension. The second you start making changes I think the TRD OP becomes a better choice.

$8k can go a long way when it comes to upgrades/mods on a 4Runner, I would rather have an 8k head start on a TRD OR because I could do the same or better suspension for less, tires, and do it all to my liking the first time.

It’s just my personal opinion but I think it’s overly optimistic to think you will be getting what you paid for it after 3 years. You never know what is going to happen with economy, it’s a risk. If I was a buyer I would think the seller is delusional and move onto something else or just pay a small premium for new. Resale is already strong enough across the board for every trim level especially if you have a 4WD.

i appreciate all the responses, thank you!

nobody has yet to respond to this though - IF i did end up thinking Pro was right for me, should the exhaust be a deterrent? in other words if i ended up not liking it would it be an easy fix?

If you can afford it get the pro. Dont have to spend your time and money modding and when it comes time to sell the resale is off the charts . Selling a modded runner will be alot harder then a stock PRO .
