*Push the pedal down slowly, and lift it up as soon as you know you're going to need to stop (when you see a red light, a stop sign, or brake lights from the car ahead of you) so that you can coast the rest of the way.
*When hypermiling, you should never need to push down the pedal by more than an inch (2.5cm).[2] Some recent cars may in fact have pedals that "push back" when you're accelerating too aggressively.
If you do have to accelerate, get it over with quickly. Fuel efficient vehicles actually generate better gas mileage when a "brisk" acceleration method is used. Slow acceleration will yield less mileage on such highly efficient cars. But any acceleration makes for terrible mileage, so get the acceleration out of the way so that you can cruise (excellent mileage!)
Notice is says "fuel efficient vehicles". So not us.

That’s why I used the word ‘skimmed’.

Oh my fault. my apologies how silly of me. I should have apparently been more clear for you and said, "you did not skim correctly". That way you would understand.

I've owned a new 5th gen for a few months but haven't really driven a whole lot (2500 miles). So far, I've been getting 15.5 - 16 on average with mixed driving here in Austin TX (though a lot of my highway driving is during rush hour so is quite slow).
The absolute best I've gotten is 16.6.
Next week, I'll be leaving on a 3000+ mile road-trip to California so would be able to stretch the legs and see what the truck does on the highway at highway speed. On the way back, I'll have a Frontrunner slimline II RR installed so will put a 1500 miles or so on the highway to see what the impact is with the RR installed. Should be a good comparison.

Just did my first half of our trip to CA for Granddaughters first birthday.
Mileage was 18.9 at one point, but then a headwind interfered.
After 500 miles the avg is 17.8.

Even a mild headwind will kill my mileage. In my experience, my MPGs going through mountain passes usually surpass my mileage on 70+mph highways due to the slower speeds (50-65). Headwind is still the biggest MPG killer for me on the highway (less common in the mtns). Likewise, a nice tailwind on that same 70+MPH highway and I've peaked at 27mph over a 100 mile stretch.

Once I went to heavier tires, my mpg dropped to around 15 in town, and I'm lucky to get 20-21 on the highway sticking around 60-65 mph.

I’ve been getting the equivalent of 11-13 mpg around town, this includes warming it up and using 4hi often since its winter. Not sure about highway milage, probably around 15 - 18 mpg.
The town milage should be much better once we get some warm weather. Feels like my old Sierra with the 5.3 was better on fuel.

My mpg is creeping up lately. It’s at 22.3 now, on the display and measuring. This is as high as I’ve seen it, and I’m not babying it. I have a theory: around here, gas typically has up to 10% ethanol. I know I’ve experienced mpg increases with other vehicles in the past whenever I filled with straight gasoline. Covid has diverted lots of ethanol to sanitizers and such. So I wonder if they’re selling straight gas at the moment due to ethanol’s scarcity or increased price. Anybody know?

No to the straight gas, but ethanol varies from time of year and your actual location. They have asstons of it, don't worry.
The most I got from low rolling resistance snow tires was about 19.1, so I'm stunned at your numbers.

Yeah, last year it hovered around 21.8, dipped down around 20.5 in the winter, and I purposely drove gently. Not so much this year. I’m at 50k miles on the original Bridgestone street tires. I’m not complaining, you understand. I just don’t know why it’s improving like this.

Summer gas has less E. Mine goes up 1-2 MPG in the summer too.

How new? Might still be breaking in.
Also, try locking it in 4th at that speed and see if it doesn't make a difference. Agree with the post above that 5th at that speed is turning the engine a bit slow.
