I have the same issue on my 18 OR, not sure if it has always been this way but since the first time I noticed it I pay attention to it and it always stays on for the 30 seconds and then shuts off. I will try the 'lock it twice' option this afternoon. If this works, I feel like it should be something posted in the 'Things you didn't know about your 4Runner' thread.....

Compustar/Drone Mobile from @gshadow325 . But, I don't think it's related to the remote start because the same thing happens if you start and stop the engine using the key in the ignition without opening the door (like through an open window or from another seat).

Autolights with remote starter.

Guys here is some clarification on how the Autolights work on the T4R and many toyotas. My 4th gen does this also.

the following scenario needs to happen
-drive truck
-park
-headlight switch in on position before turning off vehicle
-turn off vehicle
-**exit vehicle
-this starts the countdown timer of 30/60/90 seconds
-headlights will turn off after you close the door
-pressing lock 2x in many toyotas will turn off the headlight.

Why would the headlights stay on? Under what scenario?

1: if you remote started the vehicle and it shut off on its own. if the headlights are in the on position. it never saw the door open to start teh countdown timer.
2: if you open the window and reach in and turn on the headlights and never open the door. it will never go into the countdown timer mode.
3: in you shut the vehicle off and never got out of the vehicle, the headlights will stay on because it never "saw" the door open to start the coundown timer to turn off the headlights.

I hope this makes sense to everyone.

Now with the new remote starters i sell, it takes car of this very issue with the 100% plug and play kits.

Question

This started happening to me recently as well. Is the shutdown timer within the ECU or how would I be able to restore this feature.

I park the vehicle, get out, lock the vehicle and used to be able to walk away and my lights would auto shut off within a few seconds(double lock would shut them off immediately). Now they stay on even locking it 20 times. till I return to the vehicle stalk and manually shut them back off.https://t4r-1351852ontarioin.netdna-...cons/icon5.gif
