No updates yet. So many different routes to take I don't know which would be best. As I'll be adding bit's and pieces at a time, the only way I see to do it is buy a suspension that has stiffer springs and suffer with a less desirable ride until all the weight is added. Really don't want to do this but think it might be the only route to take.

Just a bit of clarification. A fox 2.5 vs 2.0 - the number is a reference to the shock piston diameter. So a fox 2.5 means the size of the shock piston. Fox 2.5 and 2.0 front coilovers can be set at any height from stock to 3 inches of lift or more. So you could use either the 2.0 or 2.5 shocks and have a lift height at 2 inches.

There's very little information on the 2.0 fox shocks for the 4Runner. I think they're a bit too expensive for what you get. The 2.5's are a big step up into the next grade of shock and they're a lot more popular because they're competitively priced with similar offerings from others. With some minor variation - all of the 2.5 inch shocks from Fox, King, SAW, ICON are basically the same. Pick your favorite color.

For something less than that - the Bilstien 6112 are a pretty solid option that a lot of people like with a lower cost. And I wouldn't count out a twin tube shock either. Some of them can ride pretty nicely and work really well if you don't need to do high speed desert runs. Dobinsons, ARB, and others offer some pretty good stuff that is not too expensive and works well for most people's use.

Good luck.

Thanks for that clarification. I figured the Fox 2.5s could be set at 2in but glad you solidified my assumption. Right now I'm guessing my picks for setup would be....

Fox 2.5 F / 2.0 R
Bilstein 6112 F / 5100 R
Dobinsons but not sure which setup

Just my opinion but I would have a hard time tearing apart a brand new 4Runner just to throw 5100 on them. I don’t really consider them an upgrade in capability, I consider them a good quality OE style replacement which accommodates a lift height. It’s the type of shock you buy to replacement a blown OEM shock and don’t want to buy garbage as a replacement.

I am a pretty big proponent of the 6112 for a daily driver/weekend warrior, it’s worth the extra coin over the 5100 in the front. Fox take-offs from a Pro would also be a nice find but they don’t do much for lift height adjustments.

Once you go to a performance 2.5, all other options basically feel like you bought a Monroe shock from Sears, but I also think it’s a somewhat high maintenance option unless you are really into suspension stuff and don’t mind blowing cash. 6112 gets you most of the way there without going too crazy.

Sure the front coilovers are adjustable from 0 to about 3 inches. If you stay at 2 inches up front, you should not need UCAs.

i went with 5160s and dobinsons 1.5" coils which really gave me 2 or so inches of lift. i dotn have any weight in the back so the rear is pretty stiff, but no issues for the last 25k miles or so

I'm still trying to decide on suspension setup but I did get a quote for OME Nitrocharger Sport suspension and labor. I was quoted the following:

Front struts and coils, rear coils and shocks, new top hats = $956.35
Labor $800.00 (8 hrs.)

I was pretty surprised by the labor charge on it and was wondering if that was typical or if I should continue to look around?

Thanks for the info. I was thinking $800 is high and that doesn't include alignment. He mentioned 8hrs is industry standard but I guess I'll shop around a little more.

Sorry to dig up a somewhat old thread... looking to do this myself, which route did you eventually go?

Does a level/lift impact the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) or Active Cruise Control (ACC) on the '20 4Runners?

I've heard that lifted Tacoma's are having issues...
I went with the 5100’s set on .85” and the rear remained factory.

I’m very thrilled with the looks and handling of this set-up. Places the frame rails and roof line completely level and eliminates the nose-dive.

No issues w/ the TSS or ACC...and I use them all the time in a variety of conditions.

Provides the perfect OEM+ look I was going for too. Mounted some Falken Wildpeaks to complete the set-up.

2020 ORP, no KDSS here.

Just ordered the relatively new Eibach Pro Coilover system with Load Leveling.

Comes with their new 2.0 coilovers for the front and height adjustable rear using their standard race springs. Went with the medium load rear springs, which are 650 lbs I believe.

Highly recommended by my shop, Eibach says it’s been very popular since introduction. Back ordered a week or so. Will report back once installed.

PRO-TRUCK COILOVER SYSTEM (Front Coilovers + Rear Shocks + Load Leveling 250 )
